Colin Noir - 7 types of shooters at the range - accurate and funny

I got called a hipster even though I am in my 50’s because I short CZ’s
I shot CZ’s before you could get CZ’s. Remember the TZ75?
I did get one from a store that got one from a GI that brought it back from Germany eventually

Don't know that I'm any of the types in the video. Probably a little of a few of them (sans housewife, hipster and selfie guy) from time to time.

My ball cap does have a good curl to the visor but that comes from over 30 yrs in the military (some habits don't die and I don't think I want that one to). I can go to the range and shoot 100's of rds or, like last weekend, spend less than 70 rds over three different rifles (40 rds through a Henry .17 HMR my wife gave me as a B-day gift). If stuff just isn't working there's no point in wasting ammo (the .17 HMR is very accurate, by the way). My rifle targets rarely have a quarter-sized hole let alone pistol targets. More like a map of the stars. But I enjoy doing it.

My son is good for a magazine dump or two. He's starting to settle down, though - basically because he doesn't buy his own ammo and I just can't afford supporting his mag-dump habit. HIS targets usually have a respectable shot group. Even the mag-dump ones (very annoying).

Great video. I think Colin would be a cool guy to share a range with.

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't seen too many of these types in my range trips. I like shooting on family land when I can. On public ranges I just want to do my shooting and leave. I like to go down to the end of the line and go early to avoid people. I don't know what "type" I am.

The wifey reminds me of a story my wife told me about the time she and some of her friends did a girl's night at the range. A guy was trying to show her the "right" way to shoot a handgun. She pulled out my Ruger Redhawk 41 Mag with a 7 1/2" bbl and did her Dirty Harriet imitation on the silhouette target. She said the guy left her alone after that.

I never go to a range on a weekend as I'd rather go during the work week when work is slow. Due to that, the ranges I go to are usually sparsely populated with middle aged to retirement aged shooters that like to be left alone. I fall into that group most of the time. :D

There's probably a missing set here for "oddball."

I remember being out at the range with my buddy, we are sharing a bench because it's crowded. Guy at the next bench leaves--no big deal. Dude in Corvette zooms up to the line (the rest of us park about 10 yards back). He pulls up so much, I was rorried he was going to hit the chair I'm sitting on. Dude gets out carrying a honking big revolver, saunters up to the empty spot, eyeballs the left-over targets, presents his six shooter and "Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam!" dumps the brass, gets in his 'vette and drives away.
Score: One in dirt about 6 yards out; one in dirt 22 yards out; possibly one on the 25 yard target; next two into the clouds; sixth round through the double-v drip overhead.

Mind, I've probably been the oddball a time or two. The dude at the end of the rifle line where everyone else is shooting AR with what look to be telephoto stalker lensed scopes, and I'm the one with a 1917 or 1903 using iron sights on the 300 yard line.

Or the day I'm on my way home and I'm driving past the range anyway, and it's eraly enough to blow off some steam, so I go on in. Only other person on the line is Old Fudd, who is fireforming some sort of cartridge, and cleaning the barrell after every other shot, because, That's What You Do!. Apparently, my double tapping is interfering which the harmony of his spheres and he wanders about the back of the line while muttering about "para militiary" this and that tut-tutting away. This is all passive-aggressive, none of this is to my face, just to the winds and the otherwise empty range. I get annoyed, and out of ammo. So, I go back to the ride, grab a couple new boxes, then don my blouse and cover. Seeing railroad tracks, causes Fudd to recall his days as a Cpl, and he takes a passably good brace, shuts up and goes back to his own knitting.

Hmm,

I'm not sure I fit into any of these categories strictly.

I tend to say hello to the RO. Quietly set up and shoot for an hour to an hour and a half. I used to shoot fast more often, but now I tend to pick up all my brass after a magazine or two, and am more interested in precision. I casually check out what other shooters are shooting from my stall.

I clean up, and I leave. I will chew the fat a little with the guys at the counter, but not too much. "Thanks, see you next time." and I'm out.

I was at the range Saturday to sight in a carbine. It was fun. However, some guy was sighting in a Ruger precision rifle. It seemed an odd choice but maybe he didn't get it bore sighted and just needed to get it on paper. That was a little obnoxious indoors and their max distance is only 30 yards.

Then there were two young guys two stalls away. I glanced over in time to see one guy shooting a Ruger SP101 in 22lr. He had his off hand pointer finger under the crane. I don't butt in typically, but his finger was way too close to the barrel cylinder gap to be a good idea. I respectfully asked them if they'd shot a revolver before, and they hadn't. I asked them if I could show them what I just saw and they actually seemed happy for a little help. I explained that in a larger caliber revolver, what they were doing could get them hurt. They seemed grateful, or at least were polite enough to not tell me to piss off. I hate being nosey, but if it saves someone from getting burned I guess I'm ok with it.

I don't get the CZ hipster thing. If anything, I picture hipsters being revolver shooters. Don't know why. Maybe it's because their cliché style that just begs for attention seems to coincide with an attitude that craves attention. In a sea of semiautos, it seems like they would want to shoot revolvers, just because they are a little old school and may stand out more. Umm.......... I guess I'm a hipster bigot.

Being forced to shoot at a range like that would be my version of hell! I might even be forced to take up golf instead.

Well I have seen a few of those "types" at ranges. Probably the most commons ones over the years have been the safety violation types, perhaps with the talkative types following behind. But I do know what type I am at the range.

I go there with a purpose. I don't use conventional targets and I don't just punch nice little holes in paper. I go through a set of drills which taxes me and makes me work to get rounds into my targets quickly, perfects my reloading abilities, and makes me work multiple targets. All of this is under tight time constraints so I do not have the luxury of wasting that time and working on the perfect sight picture. I don't worry much about other shooters, unless I notice a safety violator. I just want to improve my skills that will help me survive an extreme encounter.

About that selfie type. Many of the folks that I've taken to the rifle range have a tendency to snap pictures of the equipment, not of themselves. I attribute that to the price barrier related to actually using high end equipment. Many folks have never used a Premier, Steiner, or S&B scope. After the experience many begin slush funds to equip their own rig, yet it seems that there is always something to divert the funds? Thank goodness for WEAVER. LOL.

Entertaining video, Thanks for sharing.

^ Budget limitations? Thespian aspirations? Both? In "Kind Hearts and Coronets" Alec Guinness played nine members of the D'Ascoyne family including Lady Agatha. A high mark for an actor to shoot for. "The farce is strong with this one."

Being retired, I tend to go to an indoor range weekday mornings. To be honest, I haven't come across people like that. Most of the shooters there at that time tend to be quiet, serious, and experienced.

I have a small collection with a couple of interesting guns, i.e., an original '73 and a military M-1 Carbine. It's the range officers who come over and want to talk and try and get an invitation to try them out.

One type of shooter Colion Noir did not cover was one common to my area ... the local gangbanger.

On a serious note, if you haven't seen it, Colion Noir's piece on why the NRA is not racist. Good stuff.

Your comment about anti-semites reminded me of something you might like to read.
The guy who taught my first 'active shooter' class-- my only class besides the CCW class--grew up in the area and now lives in Israel, working part-time with the border security. He sold me his Very-used CZ PO1 as a first replacement for Russian .380 Makarov. Superb gun!

He is The reason I became really interested in handguns, and receiving training. During his two days of classes from (only) having a few Makarovs to a pair of CZs, and now three Sig P series, all proofed in Kiel Germany.
