I looked, and looked, and looked, but can not find the answer to my question-

Any thoughts/ experience/ opinions about wearing a shoulder holster under a "golf" shirt (those 2- 3 button short sleeved shirts)? I wear a T-shirt under one anyway, but was thinking (which caused some pain :) ) about this at work today.

Sure, I can try it out tomorrow, but anyone else tried it? Will it print, etc?

Is this a stupid question?

Under a loose, dark or patterned shirt, a small gun should be concealable.
My question is, how do you plan to get to your gun?

If I am reading you right ... then I don't think it is really viable.

First ... access ... can't see that being at all easy. With that clothing I'd rather have just my usual OWB and snub .. that can be pretty well covered by something like a lose golf shirt .. and still be got at without too much hassle.

Second ... I would expect severe printing. I only use a sho rig when I have a substantial loose un buttoned shirt ... so that covers me from let's say - late fall thru to early spring - only!

Just my two pennies.

oh, yeah=

I need to be able to get to the gun. Thank you. That probably would help, no? :banghead:

I'm thinking of this scenario for work, where I would (probably) be able to hear a bang first, and have time to react.

Probably not a good idea. Thanks.

assuming the shirt is not tight around you, a little loose and comfy, and untucked, then shoulder holster would not be a problem.
it is awareness and all that stuff that will tell you when to reach up in your shirt and get your shooter out, and hold it behind your thigh(until it is time to point weapon at baddy) that will save your life. Don't discard the polo shirt because you and mr.baddy are going to have a quick-draw contest.
How many gunfights in the last 20 years had anything to do with a speed draw? Hmmmm. probly a few, but most were won by someone with a gun already in their hand.
Don't let the naysayers fool ya. Make sure the polo has some sort of lizard or a neat little patch on it.

In the heat of the summer, I often use a Ken Null inverted rig, his SMZ, with a J frame under an open, un-tucked button front sport shirt. The rig is over a T shirt (with pocket) and the harness is adjusted to hold the gun just to the outside of the pocket (not in the arm pit). My tobacco pouch, in the T shirt pocket, and the usual junk in the outer shirt pocket, covers any print in that area. When the "Y" of the harness is adjusted correctly on your shoulder, it doesn't print through the shirt shoulder or back.

I've been trying to convert this to use with a polo shirt, since reading your post. As others have said, the shirt will have to be loose and baggy. The fabrics used in most polos are not as forgiving as the harder weaves available in the button front shirts. They tend to "cling" more, and complicate things by wanting outline anything they rest on, like the gun muzzle sticking up alongside your pocket. Lots of stuff in the pocket might help, but less than with a harder fabric. Also, the polo shirt and the T shirt fabric will want to cling to each other, which doesn't help. Then, in my area, at least, it is odd to see an undershirt of any kind worn uder a polo because they become heat traps. An open, untucked shirt will vent the heat away better. On the plus side, the inverted rig will draw fairly quickly, if the shirt is big enough to allow you to get most of your forearm inside, and get grip access. The SMZ releases the gun with a twist, and is quick to learn. His SKR, on the same harness, is closed with a pull-through snap and would be even better for this sort of draw. Both rigs are polymer, and impervious to sweat. It could work, if you can put up with the extra layer of shirt material (in 85° temp and 85% humidity) and find a presentable shirt (that looks OK while being baggy on you). The more I think about it, the more I think I'll stick to the open-front shirts, but to each his own. You may be in a position where you are required to look neat, and not overly unkempt. I'm old, and no matter how I look, no one particularly gives a rodents posterior, so I wear what works.

"...caused some pain..." Quit thinking at work. It'll hurt less. Seriously, you'd have trouble getting at a shoulder rig under a shirt. Even if it's untucked. And I suspect it'd screw up your swing too.

Actually-

I'm looking for this at work, only. I usually wear these shirts to work, and in IWB can still be seen as I am sometimes in close quarters to people. I'm attempting to gather funds for a 442/642 for pocket carry, but was wondering if this would work to buy me a few more weeks with the brickish PPK.

Shoulder holsters under golf vests can work as a method of CCW. Getting to the gun is not a big problem.

Use a modified grip and strip method of getting to the gun. Take your non shooting hand and grasp the bottom of the vest under the gun. Pull up and outward on the vest. This will hopefully clear the vest of the gun but if not at least make the gun easier to reach. Then with your shooting hand grasp the gun and continue the draw.

Have you ever considered a Kramer T-shirt holster or the ever popular old fashioned belly band? Lots of people I know swear by the T-Shirt holsters and I wear a belly band often.

Not to be forgotten as a carry method is a "Fanny Pack". While many people think these scream "GUN" there are still enough non gun carrying Nerds out there who wear fanny packs that you probably will not stand out too much. Of course your work dress policy might not make wearing one of these items possible. If you go this route just get a generic fanny pack maybe with a soft drink logo on it vs. a pack designed for a gun.

Regards,
Rob

I've carried a PPK clone in my pocket, and I like it, in that the pistol's flatter than the Bodyguard that I'm currently carrying. With pleated trous, it isn't a problem, but the cylinder likes to print.

cylinder likes to print

That's the problem I'm having now. I have a K&N pocket holster (Which is GREAT), but in dress pants, it flaps around in the breeze. Kahkis are a bit better, but no by much.

Rob62- thanks for the suggestions, I had not really considered either. That Kramer t-Shirt doesn't look bad.

How do you like your belly band?

I can't do the fanny pack thing- I'd have to beat the snot out of myself for wearing it!

Your better quality holsters have a panel to prevent printing. I'm using an Uncle Mike's, and if printing is a concern, I slip a piece of cardboard to the outside of the holster.

Ex-MA Hole, I like the belly band but it does get slightly uncomfortable if wearing it for extended periods. Due to my ever expanding gut :-( I wear my band higher than some people wear thiers.

I wear mine so that the gun is positioned almost under my arm pit. This really works well for deep concealment however. I can get away with a slightly oversized Old Navy T- shirt over the gun without any printing.

If you have not worn one for two days .....
borrow a friends, try it before you buy it.
I took mine back ,
because they are a pain in the port hole.
they sell them so sombody must like 'em
not me:rolleyes:

Have you considered an ankle holster? Renegade makes a very good one that is not very expensive.
