I don't think they get the concept...

Got an ad in the mail a bit ago from Hi Point. (See attachment). They have now some really flashy "camo" designs, so they're advertising it as "Camo that gets noticed." Hmmmm... I was in the Army and what I remember of the flat green, brown and black blotchy paint jobs we were putting on our vehicles was so that we wouldn't be noticed.
Did they change the concept when I wasn't looking?

To some people, camo has lost its original meaning. Now, it's just a "fashion statement." What Hi-Point is doing is just marketing to those people. Presumably, they did a pre-release survey and concluded the product would sell.

Camouflage allows you to blend into your surroundings. A bright red truck is going to blend into the surroundings more easily than a black, green and brown Humvee at the mall. During WW-1 the French uniforms were baby blue. The thinking was that if profiled against the sky they would blend in and not be seen. It didn't work well. During WW-1 and 2 many ships used by several navies were painted in some bright colors in abstract shapes to break up the profile and make it difficult to figure out which direction they were traveling. That actually worked pretty well. In the right environment that will work.

"Clever approach, but IMO anything that makes it harder to see a Hi Point is a good thing."
Hah!!!
But my 995 is still one of me favorite range guns...super accurate and reliable, with just about any 9mm flavor I feed it.
And the ATI stock makes it much more presentable.

camo is the new PC version of northerners flying the Dixie, and no more than that. Oh, and usually means you listen to awful dance country (dance pop about tractors)

I own a carbine in 45 acp in "desert digital", so I agree with post no. 2: anything that makes it harder to see is a good thing! But, by virtue of being slightly less hideous, it's noticeably better.

I thought it was because it looked nice with their white flags.

Almost 1.4 million French soldiers killed in the Great War would beg to differ with you. I really don't understand this American joke about the French surrendering. Even in the wars that France lost, those guys put up fights for the record book. Even at disasters like Dien Bien Phu.

The "horizon blue" that the French switched to during the war was a lot better than the dark blue jackets and RED pants and kepis they started with. The idiot French Minister of War Eugene Etienne resisted the change, saying, "Mai le pantalon rouge c'est la France!" ("But the red pants are France!"). Early in the war the French thought that elan -- the fighting spirit -- would be the deciding factor in winning battles. They were disabused of that notion when things settled into trench warfare. No amount of fighting spirit can win against massive artillery barrages.

To their credit, the French were the first major combatants to introduce steel helmets (the 1915 Adrian helmet compared to the 1915 British Brodie and the 1916 German Stahlhelm). (Steel helmets were to protect against overhead shrapnel, not rifle bullets.)
