Got my grail gun yesterday. Winchester mdl.70 featherweight 30-06 in high grade maple. My other rifles may not be hunted with for a long long time. But it goes between my other model 70s nicely..375, 30-06, and the .270,(I know its an obsolete round) . I threw an old redfield 3x9 on it for now, but I can see a leupold vx3 3.5x10 in the near future. The funniest part was, all my buddies asked me “why the hell didnt you get a stainless and plastic rifle, are you crazy?” Then they saw the gun in person and now want one of their own.

Well I do like maple kitchen cabinets.

The tiger maple is the only maple that should ever be used for a gun stock.

Nice choice.

looks great, i hope to get a 70 soon hope to have the extra $$ for the maple. hope there still around by then. does it feel any heavier then the walnut stocks.

I’m not normally a fan of maple on anything, but that is a beautiful rifle. Congrats. Also, it’s okay to brag a little bit. We all like nice things and there wouldn’t be a picture posted on this board if we didn’t all like to brag a little.

Kinda like Alaskan said, pretty much a gamble. Sometimes you get pretty bland light colored wood, sometimes you get beauty. I really wish somebody would do a rifle (even a 22) in cedar.
i have a large round off cherry, about 60'' by about 20'' wide. i should get 2 good stock blanks from it maybe some for a 22. it should be dry by now. i wounder id cedar will react to the metal, kinda like how oak will with the high tanice acid.

Who likes maple? This guy! Unfortunately as noted it is seldom available and often purchased sight unseen. Nearly bought a maple stock for my M70 years ago but chickened out and went walnut in a Richards Microfit. Beautiful rifle you have there, brag away!

The contrasting grip and forearm area are what really set yours apart as well as the schnabel end detail, beautiful rifle.

I've handled some rifles stocked in "birdseye" maple and that type of maple tends to be much heavier than a similar stock in walnut.

Who likes maple? Syrup, sure. Stocks, not so much.

Glad you like it, hope you have good luck with it, but personally more a fan of darker wood.

...Blonde or Brunette?

YES! Obviously!

And also, "Daymn! Nice rifles, gentlemen."

I must admit my green-eyed jealousy. I lust after a blonde myself. The local shop just wants too much for her, though. So there she sits, unequaled and alone. A bauble for a rich man...

If only a "one" preceeded the comma, instead of a "two"...:(
