While they may be a few years behind the curve on these, it looks like Winchester has quietly slipped out some new M70 options during SHOT 2018.

The first introduction is that they have now joined pretty much every other rifle manufacturer in offering the 6.5 Creedmoor in several models including the Coyote Light Suppressor Ready, Featherweight, Extreme Weather and Supergrade. This should be a nice addition to the M70 line, as the short action M70 magazines can be a bit restrictive on OAL.

The second introduction they made is to offer several Stainless models, including the Supergrade, Featherweight and Featherweight Dark Maple. I'm pretty excited about these, I always regretted not picking up one of the last FN M70 SS Featherweights that were put out in 2008 or 2009. I'll have to see where prices fall, but there may be a .30-06, or .300 WSM SS Featherweight in my near future. Chop it, thread it and shoot if for a few years before dropping the action into a Manners or Edge fill McMillan... I think I could live with that. I'd be all in for a .280, but unfortunately Browning and Winchester put a 10 twist on their .280s (even though their 7mm-08s and 7mm Rem Mags are both 9.5???), seems a shame to hobble the chambering with a slow twist.

It seems crazy to me that they only videos I can find of Winchester at Shot shows them talking about the camo patterns on their XPR rifles and the various mildly different varieties of dead tree flesh bolted to their blued supergrades, but nary a mention of all the sweet SS models they just came out with.... Priorities!

Good to hear the stainless is coming back. I have one that I purchased in 2012 in .243, even with a rebate it wasn't cheap back then. It's a nice rifle, but I have not shot it much at all.

A Model 70 Coyote Light Suppressor Ready in 300 WSM is appealing but I'm supposed to believe that all seven chamberings offered weigh 7lb 8oz?! I very much doubt that to be the case. The 6.5 CM version that Winchester just announced and their .308 Win version are very similar in concept to Kimber's Open Country which is now available in .308 Win as well. The difference being that the M70 is heavier, doesn't have paint over stainless or a CF dipped camo stock. It's good to see options though and if Kimber doesn't offer 8400s in the Open Country lineup I might have to get one in 300 WSM since I have brass, bullets, powder, primers and dies all ready to go.

Just ordered an as-new South Carolina Model 70 Extreme Weather 270 WSM.
Excited for this great find!

i have a older south carolina made wood-SS .270 featherweight still in the box. i may have to get it out and shoot it. eastbank.

Winchester does seem to play kind of fast and loose with their reported weights, like you said the Coyote Light Suppressor in .22-250 probably doesn't weigh the same as the 325 WSM.... The Open Country does look quite nice, and has a nicer stock, but to be fair retails for $1,000 more than the M70.

I sent an email to Winchester asking if the 10 twist on their .280 Rem offerings was a typo (given how their other 7mms are twisted), because I was considering buying one in SS Featherweight guise.

They emailed back and said they thought it was in fact a mistake --- the .280 shouldn't have been up as an option at all for the SS Featherweight....:(

Seems like a lot of lost opportunities for awesomeness.

Edit: I just noticed that the premium for the dark maple stock on the SS Featherweight is $520  that's pretty much the price of a McMillan or most of a Manners...
