I recently bought a new CZ 75 B SA. Wow, I love this gun. I noticed the take down lever is kinda hard to push out when field stripping. Any suggestion that won't damage the gun. I've heard of people have a little work done on the lever by a gunsmith but I don't want to do that.

One little observation: on some guns of this type of design, the alignment marks aren’t perfect. On some, it’s easier to pop out the take down lever if I jiggle the slide just a little one way or the other. And - as mentioned - I use something with hard plastic to press the pin (I usually have an ink pen or a pocket knife with plastic/G10 scales to use).

I'm not a CZ guy, but I'm pretty sure that is by design.

There is a groove in the slide stop that a spring rides in on the right side of frame. I suppose you could put a bevel on the slide stop groove, but I'd probably just give it a smack with a non-marring tool of some kind, with the understanding that it isn't a 1911. It is after all easier to reinsert, and you generally don't have to worry about an "idiot scratch".

The alignment marks on the slide/frame may not perfectly line up the notch in the slide allowing the slide stop to pop out. You can check this by looking in the slide stop hole with the SS out. Also, as mentioned, the spring that retains the SS pin is quite strong by design. The pin can be relieved a little with a file if it really is a problem. How much to file? File a little--check a lot!

Most folks just use something hard to smack it with like the handle on a screwdriver.

Bottom line: It can be made better--if you want to!

A non marring impact tool while holding the alignment marks aligned is the trick. I've used the handle of a screwdriver and also a nylon faced hammer to pop the pin. Being left handed makes it fun what with the twisting, holding and hammer tap :)

As others have said this is by design, my 75B I use a plastic screwdriver handle and it take a good push to pop it out. I do not plan to alter mine, YMMV.

I modified mine. Adjusted the slide cutout so the lines align now. Polished the SS pin so it moves a bit more easily. Still requires a rap to get it out, but can then be pulled free with my fingers. Before, I had to use a punch or dowel to get it completely free from the spring.

Kahr uses this same approach with the take down lever on their guns, or at least on my PM9. You have to line up the notches on the frame and slide to push the lever out, like on the CZ's except it's easier on Kahrs

  • Pull the hammer back to rest on the half-cock notch (if you're not already doing that). It makes the process of aligning the marks easier as it slightly detentions the hammer spring. (I've had CZs since the late 1990s, and I never noticed that the USER'S MANUAL says to move the hammer back to the half-cock notch!! Duh!)
  • With some individual guns, the slide stop will pop out easier if you try a slight mis-alignment of the marks.
  • Using a non-marring tool, or pushing the base of a magazine against the end of the slide stop makes it easier.

I just align the marks and push the nub against a hard surface like a table corner, easy peazy.

I use a nylon 1911 bushing wrench that I keep on my bench.

I know what MoreIsLess is talking about and i'm pretty sure he's not dumb and knows how and what to do to take it apart.

Canik has "solved" this "issue" on their clones. I don't feel like linking it here but do yourself a favor, go to youtube and do a search for...3 Hacks for your CZ 75...by Practical Shooter. everything will be clear if you in fact do want to slightly modify and make life easier. just go slow.

I put my 75's into half cock and then pull the slide back and it aligns it with the notch on the slide and the frame nicely. Then I use the plastic cleaning rod that came with it and push the slide stop through.

Just some quick trivia
If you get a CZ 40 you line up the dots on the slide and frame. There are notches but they don’t line up properly. You will drive yourself nuts trying to figure I out. Ask me how I know:)
