We'll I finally broke down and bought my very first CZ 75. Im here to tell you that I wish that I had bought a CZ sooner. Wow! What a Handgun! Very accurate. I love the DA, Half cock and cocked and locked features. And standard cap mags are not that hard to find for the CZ.:D Anything that I need to know about my new baby? Books, etc?

Ps The Glock 17 is a little jealous, shes just sitting in the gun case alone. tehe.......:D

I use to have a CZ 75 in .40, but I didn't like the caliber and sold the gun. The gun was great, but I'm not a .40 guy. I still have a CZ 97B in .45 ACP, and I like it very much.

Eventually, I'd like to get another CZ 75, but in 9mm this time.

Welcome to THR!

Many CZ owners here. Tell me what do you like about the CZ75 vs your
Glock 17 (both guns I am interested in).

cheers, js

Joe, I also have both the G17 and a CZ75B and can tell you about MY experiences, but of course, YMMV. I bought both guns used, my G17 from a local gunshop and my CZ from the local range. The G17 is a 2nd gen frame, and appeared to be new/like new condition. The only thing that told me it wasn't new was a peice of grit tape on the front strap. My CZ was the range's rental gun, and the one time I did rent it, it jammed like crazy. I attributed it to the dirtiness of range guns, and bought it later anyways when it was for sale. I only paid $205 for it, so I didn't expect a whole lot. That being said, it was pretty beat up looking on the outside, but the bore seemed to be in good condition. I have no idea how worn the springs may be. It came with hogue finger groove grips, which I am neutral about. Ok, so on to the shooting.

At first, I HATED glocks. Hated how the felt, how they looked, etc. But, I figured hey, with as many people out there that swear by them, they can't be all bad. So, since it was a pretty decent deal, I decided to try it out. At first, I hated the trigger, kind of heavy and "sproingy" (if you've ever shot a glock you'll know what I mean). But, it grouped great, and was dead reliable. I have gone about 500 rds without a cleaning, and it still function flawlessly. You'll get used to the trigger, like you will the grip angle, and after that, I bet you'll kind of like it. For me, it is the most accurate gun I own (in relation to SA mil-spec, CZ75B, GP-100, S&W M10 2"). I like the standard plastic sights, and feel they are easy to pick up and quick also. I don't think I would want a lighter trigger, especially on something that would be used for defense, but the G34's trigger is pretty sweet.

Ok, for the CZ, like I said, mine was pretty beat up. Reliability has been so-so. Sometimes it'll fail to feed, brass usually ejects straight back onto my forehead, and so forth. It probably needs new mags and maybe an ejector tuning  But, when it does work, which is most of the time, it works great. Trigger pull on mine is awesome, probably because it was so broken in as a rental...way better than the Glocks. Sights are a little lacking, a little orange nail polish on the front sight will probably help that. It is also a damn accurate gun, much like my G17, it's just that the sights are a little harder to pick up, for me. Grip angle is probably more standard than the Glock, and it is more ergonomical/less blocky. I bet with a really good cleaning and some new springs/mags and possibly a tune-up it'll run great. Too bad I don't know of any decent smiths around here besides an in-house one at a local shop.

Well, hope this helped.

The standard recoil spring is a little weak. If you plan on shooting a lot of +P or any +P+, you'll want to order a 16# or 18# spring from Wolff Springs.

Get a set of pin punches so that you can remove the extractor for cleaning. You'll know when it's needed when you start to get failures to extract.

Consider getting the companion CZ Kadet .22 kit. It's a well made, accurate conversion that effectively gives you two guns in one.

Other than that, enjoy.

Can't speak about the Glock. I've shot them but never owned one. The CZ, on the other hand, is my favorite. I've got a 75B Mil that I wouldn't part with. It was my first gun and it's the one I trust, and shoot, the best. The trigger on yours is probably as broken in as it's going to get. This is good. Strip all the springs and replace. While you have it stripped clean it REAL good. After that you can let it get dirty again. I have run up to 1500 rounds thru mine before I cleaned it. Not b/c it started to jam, but b/c I just felt bad about it.

You are going to love the accuracy. The CZ is a very accurate gun. WAY more accuate than I am. One complaint you hear alot is about the tripper reach in DA. If this is a problem see about getting some thinner grips. The Hogues are fairly thick and some of the other ones out there are a little thinner. Hogue makes some wood ones that are nice, so does CZ, but the end all be all in CZ grips is a gentleman named Hakan Pek. I can't remember his web site, but if you do a quick search you will find him. Check with Holsters by Eric for your leather goods. Also, if you haven't found it yet, you should visit www.czforum.com and look around again. Many of the same people, but kind of focused on CZs.

Now get out and shoot it and let us know what you think.

Long time CZ shooter here...thought I'd let everyone know I just found standard capacity 15 round magazines on CDNN for a measly $8.99. Heck, they're still going for $20+ on ebay! Anyway, I ordered 1/2 a dozen...I'll post when they arrive and let you all know if they're quality mags or not.

Whichever one has the best trigger. The differences between them are trivial and basically have to do with the "B" model's firing pin block.

(Different sights on both, and pre-B/older guns are harder to find sights for.)

The 75B will be easier to find mags for -- as it will take after-market mags, while the pre-B will generally only work with true factory mags.

Some pre-Bs have wonderful triggers.

That pre B has an awesome trigger....

But considering that all I want it for is to ride in my truck as a truck gun it prob dont make a diff

I will second the Kadet conversion. I bought one put on my 75BD and was pretty amazed at the accuracy I was getting. Great cheap fun and helps break in the trigger at the same time. Also helps keep the chipmunk population down. The trigger on my BD isn't bad but the one on my PCR isn't as smooth and doesn't break clean. The Kadet kit will go on either gun.

I have a preB as a truck gun. Its great. I also have a compact and a Standard IPSC. Wonderful guns. Especially for the dough

IMHO the CZ75B is the best gun for the money of any gun made! Whoa! Did I say that?! Maybe a little hyperbole but UNQUESTIONABLY a great gun for the money and a fine gun at any price.

Yeah, another vote for the Kadet kit. It gives you a lot of practice for next to nothing. Most range trips, the Kadet kit is all I shoot.

Add another vote for the Kadet Kit. I take it and my Ruger 22/45 to the range all the time. Haven't shot 9mm since I got the kit. I only bring the Ruger because it has a red dot sight which is easier on the eyes after shooting for an hour with the CZ. The CZ eats up Winchester Value Pack rounds without any problems though it is more accurate with CCI MiniMags. At 3-4 cents a round for 22LR, I can shoot a couple of hundred rounds at each range visit. Haven't even touched my Ruger P89TH since getting the CZ. Should probably try to sell it so I can start saving for a S&W 617.

CZs rule. WildAlaska, get the preB CZ - worth more. Actually, both are a great deal, so dip into those limitless funds and get 'm both!
