If I suggest to someone to put a recoil pad on their rifle they will usually do just the opposite. In case you don't want to put a recoil pad on it think about a Pachmayr Decelerator 752B medium 1 inch thick black installed by a good gunsmith. It will really improve your experience in shooting that nice rifle. It's a great rifle and I hope you will have it for many years.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it appears that the buttplate isn't set at a 90 degree angle to the bore line. I would cut the butt to install a recoil pad. The ones I'm using these days are Limbsavers and they make shooting my .270 Win very nice. Their website is comprehensive and they have pre-fitted pads for many rifles.
