I bought a used Ruger M77 Hawkeye, walnut stock in .270 Win this weekend, scoped it up, and put a few boxes of ammo through it on Sunday afternoon. It's a well-built rifle, attractive and shoots nicely.
Then I picked up my Kimber 84M Classic Select in .308 Win. It quickly reminded me of why I paid so much for it. It fits me WAY better, is WAY lighter, the trigger and action are WAY smoother.
Another interesting thing. The Ruger .270 is nearly 2 pounds heavier, yet the recoil FELT stronger than the 6 pound Kimber! I would attribute that to the Kimber wearing a 1" Pachmayer recoil pad, vs the Ruger's relatively thin rubbery butt pad.
All in all, I'm glad to have the Ruger. It makes me appreciate the Kimber even more!
