Earlier this year I bought a used Benchmade from a guy who had a custom engraving on his original blade, then sent it back for a non customized blade and Benchmade gave him back his original blade. I have been thinking about getting a cheap knockoff knife from ebay or Amazon and then replacing the blade with the extra I have, but I've not been able to find a model that looks the same as the Nakamura. I also thought about getting a Griptilian but the screw that holds the blade on the Nakamura is much smaller than the ones on the other Benchmade knives I have.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience doing something like this?

Even if there was a knife that looks like the Nakamura, it's extremely unlikely to have the exact same blueprint, so that wouldn't work. Is the "First Production Run" etched on the blade the "custom engraving" you're referring to, or is there actually a custom etching on the other side of the blade?

You're assessment about fitment is exactly why I asked if anyone had any similar experience. I don't really have any other ideas. I can unscrew and screw something together, mostly without buggering up the screw heads, but I'm not skilled enough to make or fashion parts to create a new knife. The Griptilian is actually pretty close, other than the screw size. Even the Axis lock will lock up the blade tightly.

There's an image on the other side of "Lucky" the dog, who may, or may not, be with us anymore and could have led to the blade change out, but I didn't ask for the back story.

Two options.

1. Put the custom blade on your knife and sell the other one to someone who broke the blade on their Nakamura.
2. Put want to buy ad out for someone selling a Nakamura with a broken blade.

Are you saying you've put the Nakamura blade into a Griptilian, using the Nak's pivot screws, and it worked, other the pivot being wobbly?

I'm not sure how much could be made selling the spare blade. Benchmade will generally replace a blade for $30 ($10 extra for black coating) if you ship the knife to them. Maybe the OP could get a deal on a used Nakamura with a broken blade if the seller was ignorant of the blade replacement service.

Yes it fits well in the Griptilian except the screw is too thin. It doesn't seem cost effective to buy a broken or damaged Nakamura so I may throw it on ebay and see what I get for it. BTW, the Nakamura is a nice smaller sized knife when you don't want to carry a larger one.

Well, there seems to be a fair amount of material around the pivot screw hole in that blade. Someone who's fairly skilled with a drill press should be able to use the existing hole as a pilot hole and open it up to use the mini grip's larger pivot screws.
