Blanks

Hello,
Who knows anything about loading blanks (for .44 magnum)? For various reasons (like scaring the deer out of my garden) I'd like to be able to make a loud noise without launching a projectile.
Do I just load a case with some powder (say, 5 gr of 231) and put a construction paper wad over it to hold the powder in, or is there more to it than that?
