Data looks promising for 44 magnum and Longshot. Theres a very narrow range between 11 and 12 grains for this powder with a 240gr.JHP. (im hoping to try with Cast LSWC of the same weight) I plan on starting at 11, and working up slowly if needed)

The faster powders i have max out this projectile around 1200fps with max pressure (231, power pistol and BE,86). Where my slower powders allow for 1350-to over 1400fps. and dont like to be downloaded, or are very dirty if downloaded (296 and 2400) What we are discussing here is a "Medium" class magnum.

My accuracy/power sweet spot has always been around 1225fps-1250fps being able to shoot target-like accuracy, but enough power to knock steel over at 100yds, AND. hunt deer and hogs without issue. A "DO-ALL" load.
Has anyone ever used Longshot in 44 mag. Tell me about it.

I’ve used it in 44 special and found it accurate for my uses, in my case it was 9gn under a lee 200gn rnfp cast bullet.

I hear good things about it in 10mm with 180s. Both being hot-for-diameter rounds, I imagine it would be great in 44mag.

Its the 10mm "golden" powder. Love me 10mm and Longshot. It makes the 10mm the best it can be :)
Before i discovered it, i used Blue Dot and Power Pistol; theyre a close second in the 10mm dept.

I use LongShot in .45Colt, .44Mag, 9mm, .40 and others.
Think a slow Unique. Very good with cast bullets!

Is it faster or more accurate? Hornady manual shows it 100 FPS slower with 180’s than 800X

Its fast and accurate for me, the best ive tried in 10mm.
Longshot reminds me of a slower burning and more magnum style Winchester 231.

I never tried it in 44 mag.

I was fooling around with 45 super and Longshot showed the lowest pressure vs velocity on Hodgdons site. I began working it up and liked the results. Unfortunately that project got put on the back burner for awhile.

Just developed a load for Longshot a couple of months ago
10.6 gr Longshot, Hensley and Gibbs #45 240 gr cast bullet (2 pt ww, 1pt lino)
Shot in 7 1/2 inch Ruger SBH
Average velocity was 1249.
Shot great. My go to load for years was 10.0 grains of unique but I liked this better.
I think you will like it. I know I sure did.

Sound great!

I ran 12 or 12.5gr of longshot behind a 240MBC for my "mid" range .44 loads in my SBH. They clocked 1250ish from its 7.5" barrel.... if im remembering correctly. I can probably find my original posting on it from a few years ago.

Found it....11.5-12 gives around 1200 from my gun. So 12.5 would probably run 1250ish which is what im remembering as well.
