What are the options? What are you guys using?

I was considering the streamlight pro tac with tape switch but I'm getting the impression their quality control is slipping as alot of people seem to be having issues with theirs.

A M600 Surefire scout is out of the question for me at this moment but I would like to upgrade from my maglite and want something that is compatible with a tape switch, preferably.

I've looked at some of what's out there but I have found out that being on this forum is a good way to find out about things that aren't exactly readily apparent in general internet searches...

The ITI M3 with a rocker switch will do it. Also you could use a 1" diameter surefire like nitrolon or a 6P and a Viking Tactics mount and attach to your rail if you have a rail.

Where and how are you mounting it?

I've gone SureFire X300s at a simple 12 O'Clock position forward of the FS and gone without the tape switch:

I've found that 12 O'clock is 'barrier friendly' in that IF I can see the sights/optic my light isn't obstructed.

Slick. Less bulky than 3 o'clock side mounted lights. Your light is in the $260 range though correct? I have a surefire G2L that there is a tape switch for but reliability seems hit or miss with alot of tape switch options it seems. Looks like you gotta spend around $300 to get bombproof reliability.

I have a Maglite XL200 in a GG&G 1" mount in the 3 o'clock position on one of my AR's. No tape switch but the way I grip the rifle allows for quick activation with my thumb. It has survived on my rifle the last 1000 or so rounds but I had one on there previously, same exact setup and it died cold one day. Light never functioned again. I'm guessing they aren't recoil rated...

I dont really know what direction to turn, I've been looking at lights for hours today. I just want decent, reliable light for around $150-$200. I wouldn't think it would be this hard to narrow down a couple options....

Some decent options posted above though. Maybe I'll take my chances with the pro tac or the tl-r 1. I'm pretty sure they have a warranty so what the heck.
