I sold my Super Blackhawk a few years ago but I have felt the vacuum left by that sale, so I've been shopping .44 mags lately and I got this one the other day. It's a "new" Smith and Wesson 629-6. I put new in quotes because it was previously owned but the guy shot fewer than 50 rounds through it before deciding it was too much gun for him. The Harry Callahan Syndrome was cured pretty fast.

I didn't want a single action this time. I was going back and forth over whether to get a 629 or a Taurus M44 and Smith won the day. Today, at least. Being of the mind that you can never have too many guns, I will get a M44 in a couple of months when my gun budget recovers.

The factory grips are good and will do a good job for recoil absorbed shooting, but I'm going to outfit this one with some of those imitation stag grips from Altamont and a Tyler T-Grip as well, just for those fancy Texas barbecues we are always having. This big ol' N frame is of the round butt persuasion for those interested in such things.

I also have a nice chocolate brown Tom Threepersons holster for this one. It's the spitting image of the ones sold by El Paso Saddlery but about $40 cheaper. Made by a guy in Georgia, so you know it's good. I have one of his T3P holsters for my .357 Blackhawk and it's a dandy.

You are more of a man than I ! I had to put these Hogue X grips on my M629 because it hurt too much to shoot otherwise. I have stag grips on other pistols, and they might rasp some palm flesh off with 44 Mag recoil.

I like N frames with stag magnas and grip adapters. These are all 45 ACP.

The two revolvers on the lower right are both round butted. One has a rb/sb conversion set of stocks on it.

I've never understood this myself. However, I will appreciate finding a nice, barely used 29 or 629 someday
Since most people are idiots and think they have to shoot magnums just cause it says .44 "magnum" on the barrel, I think you'll have no problem finding one. I found one that had less than 15 rds through it. LGS gave a deal at 725 which is pretty standard I guess but I see them go for more. IMG_20190703_180359315.jpg

Sadly I never see deals of any sort in my area. Everything used is priced high

I use texasguntrader.com for some good deals. I would suggest using it's sister site http://floridaguntrader.com/, however don't deal with anyone that doesn't have a LTC/CHL, your best bet i imagine would be a pawnshop or gun store. Don't pay attention to the sticker price come in with cash and make an offer 700 now beats 799 on the gun you've had on inventory for a year and a half. Don't be afraid to negotiate that is how deals are made.

Here it is with the Altamont stag grips. I have a BK grip adapter that will be here in a few days. The BK adapter is a polymer Tyler T-Grip knock off. They come in black and ivory and are around $12 cheaper than Tyler Ts. Plus you can order them online instead of mailing off like you have to do for the Tyler Ts. I think I'll need to send off for the brushed aluminum Tyler T-Grips anyway though just to have a match with the stainless steel. BTW, it's recoil is very manageable with these grips shooting a hot .44 Special load. I haven't touched off any factory magnum rounds yet onnacounta I'm cheap!

If you are going with stags and a grip adapter AND going to a BBQ, you really need leather befitting such a fete. Here is a photo of some of my Sunday leather. And one with a stag gripped N frame.

Got myself a 629 earlier this year, that showed up at the lgs. One of those guns you just need to wait for, got it for $600. An awesome gun to shoot and reload for, plus it works for conceal carry under my riding vest.
It sat for a month, I thought it would have been gone. The shop owner gave me a "friend " price on it. there was a time these N-Frames would be gone in a week.
