Wheel Gun Man,

Those receiver sights on '94s are pretty much where the idea for a Ghost ring sight came from. Most folks that woods hunted simply removed the screw in apperature and used its mounting ring as a wide thin walled apperature that work great in the woods and on fast targets

It was one of those things Col Cooper wrote of back in the day that made me wonder "Don't everybody do that with their thuty-thuty?"

I've done that, but I prefer a biggest diameter Twighlight aperture Williams makes.

From what a gunsmith told me, the nickel steel Winchester used at the time is bad to resist re-bluing. I'm sure the barrel, magazine tube, and other steel parts will take a good blue and I'd do that myself at home. But as far as any rust on the reciever, I'd suggest first scrubbing it off with steel wool and 3-in-1 oil, and then just keeping it wiped down. But that's me... BTDT... YMMV. I really can't comment on cerakote.
Winchester did not use Nickel steel for their receivers post 64. They used some mystery steel which won't take bluing very well, if at all. I had a buddy that bought a post 64 in the PX for a song. He told me that the receiver was made of alum. which I said no. It's just poor quality "steel".

I went last Sunday against my better judgement to the range. I should've taken a pic if the target. It shoots MOD for me (minute of deer) it will put down anything I need it for but it ain't no 1000 yard tack driver. Which is fine as that's not the guns purpose. The gun cycled fine once you got past the ****e loading gate. I ordered one off eBay and fixed it. The gun now functions as it should. I put another 20 rounds through it for function it is so fun to shoot I may just cerakote it after all and this may be among my new favorites.

The receivers were made from " graphitic steel " which is very much like cast iron. It will not take hot salt bluing. The bluing would look great coming out of the tank and it wiped right off. Don't ask how I know... Winchester would " tin plate " the receivers and then blue the tin.

At that time you could send Winchester your stripped receiver and they would tin plate and blue for $25.

Always happy to help a fellow Jeeper. I miss my 06 Rubicon. I had a panel with MOLLE slots that folded down into a handy little table mounted on the inside of the tailgate. It was a real slick set-up.
I've seen some rigs like that. I have a 2013 JK sport and got it for a good deal. 20k for 28k miles on it back on MLK day 2017 we now have 73,500 miles on it. We have been across Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Louisiana. I looked at some parts on Amazon I'll look up some other rigs to see what will work best for me on the gate.

The Evangelist Cowboy great buy and resurrection.
For $80 you have room for ammo, gas, books, parts and a subject for great conversation for many years to come.

Nice to see the after pic of the barrel. On mine, I don't really worry about the finish wear on the reciever, but everybody's different. Same way with sights... when I mounted a Lyman #2 tang sight, I removed the original and installed a filler blank, but now it's wearing a Williams 5-D like yours is. Tell you a goofy thing I saw happen with another late 1970's or 80's '94... the dovetail was cut crooked enough that at 25yds it was hitting 12-14" off. I recall the quick solution was that the factory rear sight got swapped for a blank and a 5-D too. Well, I guess it's a matter of we can point to this or that detail, but these guns are way too good for their intended purpose in spite of whatever Winchester did or didn't do.
