I enjoy my Shield45s, my biggest issue is spare magazine prices, you can remove the trigger guts and polish to smooth out the trigger easily. I purchased mine when there was a rebate. Everyone that has shot it was impressed. The 9mm version handles good and is cheaper to shoot.
A friend just purchased a Taurus G2C and I liked it even though the trigger was looong but then broke clean, I could get used to it. It is a little narrower and shorter than my Shield45.
There are several things I like about the Shield 45. What impressed me and surprised me the most was how soft it shoots. It is a gun I could shoot all day and not tire of it.

Thanks, all. Like I said before, I went to the LGS looking to handle a PPS M2 and came out very impressed by the CCP M2 instead. Light and handy but with a generous grip that felt great in the hand. I would not have bought the original CCP just because of the takedown procedure, but that seems sorted with the CCP M2. The unsual mechanism does not bother me, and I like the relatively light trigger with a manual safety. The only thing that gave me pause was the sights...they are just not very clear or easy to pick up, small white dots in recessed holes. I would like something like the Ameriglo sights with the big, tritium + fluorescent dot front and a plain black notch rear. If I can find those, I'll probably go with a CCP M2.

The Glock 43X and G48 can be had with Ameriglo night sights sights from the factory. I like the the orange front sight for my old eyes. Either of those two will make an excellent ccw. You should also go to a LGS and see if they have the standard P365. Ask the dealer if he has a Sig 12 round mag so you can see for yourself how it feels. We are all different but I absolutely love the way the 12 rd mag feels and handles with the P365. The P365 comes with very good night sights. 12+1 rounds in a gun the size of the P365 is awesome ( for me).
Either of the 3 aforementioned handguns would serve you well.
Best of luck

I really love my Kahr CM9 but when I saw how much first-version M&P Sheilds are going for, I'm tempted to buy one. I have no need for a second tiny CCW 9mm so I hope I'll be able to resist. ;)

I need to go to a range and rent one of these single stack Glocks. Never really cared for the grip of a Glock because, well, they're blocky, and the grips were always kind of thick for my small hands. With all the backstraps they are doing now and a 1911-esque single stack thickness, maybe that's changed.

I was writing earlier today about how I needed to get a pistol red dot - maybe get a G43x or G48 (BTW, can someone fluent in Glock explain what the difference is to me? I was looking them up today and they look to be essentially identical), get an aftermarket slide, slap a pistol dot on there... I see a very expensive plan coming together...

If you can point me to one of either or even a 908S for sale in near-new condition at a reasonable price then I'd be all for it. ;-)

I really like the Shield, and I picked up a Kimber Micro-9 the other day and it's a real sweetheart.

There is a G48 at the bottom and a Sig P225 in the middle. The P225 is a better carry piece, for me, between those 2. IMG_3997.jpg

I agree with this. (Post #53 by Safety First)

Just yesterday I went to the range and shot my shields in all 3 calibers for comparison.

My accuracy are .45 Shield >> 9mm >> .40S&W

I was equally surprised the .45 Shield has a low recoil & smooth shooting. It's a winner.

But if "carry" is the overall objective, is the concealability possibly a bit more essential than having an extra bit of firepower, whether capacity or muzzle energy (or even accuracy at 5-10 feet away) such as .357 .40, .10mm, .45 etc?

This is based on a 9x19 mm single stack, as a minimum, defined by the OP's parameters.

My Sig P6 ('01) and P225 ('97) have a little bit better ergos than my Sig P228 ('94). This could make a difference shooting in double action, but whether the **thinner ergo guns' benefits** are needed at a typical Very short self-defense distance must be a complex subject.

I went through a very similar exercise when looking for a carry pistol. I ended up with a performance center shield and have been carrying it for the last two years. I narrowed my choices down to the Glock 43, the Walther PPS and the Shield. I actually ended up with a shield because Smith and Wesson had an incredible rebate going at the time. I think I would have been happy with any of the three choices.
