when they came out with those electric engraving pencils my gpa kinda went nuts putting his name on stuff. no matter none of his guns will be sold while im still alive anyway.

Mr. Ridgerunner is absolutely correct! However, it wasn't only his grandfather who went a little crazy with the electric pencils when they came out in the 1960s. I can remember police departments recommending you have all of your "valuables" identified with your name and/or social security number. Some police departments even had Saturday events when you could bring in your "stuff" and they would put your name and/or number on it. I still find an example now and then that has a social security number engraved on it with an electric pencil.
In a similar vein, but slightly more ... well different, I knew a young lady who gave names to all of her firearms and then had the names tattooed on her!

I have a love for personalized firearms, be it a simple name carved in the grips or something more. I have a Bulgarian Mak that has what I believe are someone’s name scratched in the grips. But it could be a proof stamp, however, I scratched my name on them. Yea; it brings the value down and no one will buy it, I don’t though. It makes it mine. And my children will have something to remember me by if I pass it down.
