I brought a Magpul CTR Stock in FDE for AR-15. When I inspected it there is a spot about 1/4” in diameter on the lower brace that is not coated. The underlying plastic is visible which is a lighter shade of FDE. The spot looks like it was where the stock was attached to the plastic sprue when molded.

Is this normal? My other Magpul stocks are black so I do not know what to expect.

You are correct, that’s where the gate is for that part. The color is mixed into the material when the plastic is melted in the barrel prior to injection. It’s lighter in color because that’s just what happens when the gate is clipped. If you look at your black stocks, it will be the same, though probably less noticeable.

I forgot that I have a Magpul MOE stock in FDE. I checked it and it is completely coated.

edited: I can see how the MOE FDE is molded differently as it has a hole in the brace for the plunger that locks into buffer tube. I checked the black CTR stock and can barely see when the sprue was cut from the stock.

The interesting thing is i watched a couple of youtube videos and that spot does not show up. Anyway I have decided it is not defect and is just a part of the manufacturing process.
