found a Desert Eagle recently for a price I couldn't turn down.
So far I have Hornady dies, A Hornady LnL shell plate, approximately 250 pieces of Speer .50AE brass, 500 Berry's 300gr round shoulder plated bullets, LP primers (magnum and standard), and a few different types of powders.
Powders I have on hand that might be suitable;
Win296
Hodgden H110
IMR 4227
Alliant 2400
Blue dot

Anybody have tips for recipes that work in their DE using these components?
Thoughts on OAL? From what I'm reading OAL can be critical to reliability.

I have some weird ideas about using muzzleloading sabots to safely use cast .430 bullets in the DE without fouling the gas system....Mostly because I have an excess of lead and cast for the .44 magnum. Anybody ever try that?

Thanks

I was going to tag this to get updates, but instead I will warn against the sabots. Filling your gas system with plastic is just as bad as filling it with lead.

I found magnum primers to give superior ignition with the light weight Berry’s. I have nine pounds of H-110, so I’m only branching out with bullets weight for a while. But haven’t done so yet...

Caution! Custom load data for a specific pistol follows...
I use Berry’s over 34 grains of H-110, in a Starline case, plugged with a CCI 350. This is at a length of 1.605 inches and is maximum in my pistol.

Congratulations on the find! I hope you enjoy it, I know I do!

I will return to waiting for more loading data patiently.:)

I’ve had best results from AA#9 (less flashy) and H110 (fireballs are cool). I tried AA1680 with a 335 gr. plated bullet and a mag primer, but was getting poor ignition and it would not cycle the action.

I haven’t tried Blue Dot in the .50, but it did not want to cycle in the .44 Mag.

OAL is dictated by the magazine length. Most bullets have to be seated about as far into the case as possible to be able to fit in the magazine. But they have surprisingly fed fairly well when I have done this.

It seems like there is relatively little info out there for loading the .50AE. But what is out there seems to work fairly well.

In the 50AE I load 31.5gr H110 under by 300gr Berry's. With a CCI350 primer I am around 1250fps. The DE cycles fine. I do find the ejected cases hit me on the forehead above the right eye though. I shoot right-handed.

I am yet to find a totally reliable load for the 44Mag barrel. Out of a magazine I will get one or 2 cycles that fail to go completely into battery. Extract and eject are fine. I am still playing with this bullets and powders...

That’s actually not uncommon. The gun wants to twist in the hand when shooting, and when it does, it seems to aim the ejecting brass right at the shooter’s forehead.

When I start getting pegged, it’s a reminder that I’m not gripping the gun tightly enough to keep it from torquing sideways. When this happens I find reestablishing my grip will cure the issue.
