What's a good alternative to the stock plastic sights on the Traditions Hawken Kit? My kids got me a lot for my birthday, and this is the one thing I want to change. Are there any direct replacements or an I looking at a trip to the gun Smith to have it drilled and tapped? I'd prefer Lyman Peep Sights, love them on my Maurer K98. I did build a Traditions Deerhunter last year, but that came with Williams Fiber Optics.

Forget about the lyman peep.

On all 3 of the st louis hawken kits ive done, I cut my own dovetail ( very easy to do ) and then installed the traditional lyman great plains rifle rear sight. Front sight I went with a factory german silver cva bobcat sight.

For my eyes, I took it out to 100 yards before doing any cutting and mounted the gun on a rest and then put the new rear sight on the factory location, found it blurry, so I slid it up the barrel until everything came into focus perfectly. Marked it, took it back to the shop and went to work. This sight now sits 2" forward of the factory mounting location.

If you like/want a peep sight, check out Skinner Sights. They may have something you like that does not require a gun smith to install.

The T/C Hunter peeps are as scarce as hens teeth, and if you are lucky enough to find one you will pay dearly. The last one i saw for sale, they were asking almost 3 times what the sight went for new.

I've found a few options, Marble Arms makes something I like and RMC makes one too, and Skinners look nice too. Thsnks for the suggestions!
