.380 ACP

Federal HST 99 gr - 1030 fps (3.75")

Hornady XTP 90 gr - 1000 fps (4.0")

Underwood Std Press XTP - 1025 fps (?)

Precision One XTP - 925 fps (4.0")

Precision One XTP/+P - 975 fps (4.0")
Intended for the Glock 42 which will not cycle with the Precision One Std Press.

So my question is, does it seem likely the Precision One +P is over SAAMI Max of 21,500 psi or just higher than the typical 12,000-16,000 psi that most .380 ACP is loaded to?

I know we can't know for sure, just asking most people's opinion.

I'm confused by the data you listed.

It appears that the Hornady (1000 fps) and the Underwood standard pressure (1025 fps) XTP loads have a higher velocity than the Precision One +P load (975 fps).

Those are the correct advertised velocities, yes. While I have not tested the +P the standard PO Loading does typically average significantly slower. I get 800-850 fps out of PO and 850-900 fps out of Hornady out of an LCP (Depending on conditions and lot number).

The backstory is that the standard loading was optimized for the LCP and would not always cycle an G42. The +P was developed specifically for the G42 or other pistols that were sprung for hotter CIP (European) ammo.

I have had trouble getting an official statement from PO on whether it exceeds 21,500 psi. They will only go so far as the standard is intended for pistols like the LCP and P3AT and the +P is intended for pistols like the G42 and Pico (+P Rated whatever that means).

We are currently using Hornady ammo in an LCP, G42 and 380 EZ but the Precision One +P is a little lower price and has a very good reputation for function.

It’s difficult to say what peak pressure the cartridge generates. It depends on the gunpowder formulation.
