I’m wanting a LH bolt gun in 300 Blackout but nobody seems to be making one. I’m considering building my own by buying a LH Savage Axis in 350 Legend and a RH Axis in 300 Blackout and swapping barrels. Does anyone know if these guns both use the same barrel shank diameter? I know all the new 100 series guns use the fat barrel now but I don’t know if the Axis series is standardized on a particular size. I assume since both cartridges are based on .223 they would be the same, but I would hate to order two rifles and discover they are different.

I know I could just buy a barrel but you can buy a whole gun for less than a custom barrel, and at 100 yards the value of a custom barrel would be squandered.

All the Axis ive handled were small shank. I hadnt heard that Savage was going to all large shank barrels, so am unaware if thats a change across the board.
I’m pretty sure I read somewhere they had standardized on the large shank for all new production. As with all things Internet this could be completely false.

The large shank came into existence when they started chambering for the WSM cartridges, and it makes sense to only make one diameter of receiver and barrel nut.
