Ammo selling out fast

I also have a lot of reloading. I load mostly for my range shooting but have M855 bullets put away and steal jacket Wolf up the wazu. I also pick up range brass that people leave behind. I have thousands of 223 9mm and its how I get all my 45lc and 44mag.

I've always thought it was funny, people thinking there might be a shortage- create the shortage. Like the bank runs back in the day. That'll be next.

2-3% death rate with healthy enough people just getting a cough and a fever. "Hmm, what do I need? AMMO!...and all the toilet paper I can get my hands on." Glad I reload...and still have some old yellow pages around here.

Bank runs? o_O

Went to the LGS at lunch today to get some .40sw, they had 3 boxes left total. 1 box of range PMC and 2 boxes of hollow points. Only bought the box of range ammo, kinda thinking I should have bought a box of hollowpoints at least. Hopefully by Thursday they have more. Kinda wondering how long Targetsports will be to ship. Hope it's not the full 10 days

Here is the thing during the panic of 2012 there was not shortage only panic buying. That lasted 5 years. This is not only panic buying but everything is shutting down. So couple supply disruption and panic buying and I can see this being bad for at least three months or more.

I have a friend who manages a feed store and sells some ammo. Customers came in this morning and bought him out of 223, 380, 9mm, and 40 S&W. I had to check 5 of my distributors to find 380 and 9mm. I have plenty 223 and 40 cal, but it looks like another ammo shortage in the making.

Interesting point. Last time around the ammo manufacturers were pumping out as much ammo as they could produce for quite a awhile. It would be quite the disruption if someone like Vista Outdoors has to close plants for 2 weeks or a month.

All that and the upcoming presidential election could strain the supply chain for awhile. I’m glad I stocked up at favorable prices.

After the .22 fiasco a couple of years ago (which I weathered quite nicely) I positioned myself to never let ammo shortage or panic buying situations concern me.

I was fortunate, I picked up a lee production pot, 357 and 452 molds, along with about 120lbs of lead for about $150 about a year ago. Wasn't sure if or when I'd use it. But here we are. Plus after the last shortage, I stocked up. On factory loads and reloading supplies. I was actually getting slightly embarrassed a little over a week ago when I bought a cabinet for the new reloading room, and filled it with about 80% of the factory ammo I have on hand, still no reloads in there. But now...I'm pretty ok with that. So, if we do get shut down for a while, I have a couple thousand 45 rounds to load...if I blow thru that and still have time on my hands, it'll be time to fire up the pot and try my hand at casting for the 357. Should be good for a while.

I reload for most of the rifle and pistol calibers that I shoot and have a pretty good supply on hand. Also have 3 - 4 thousand .22lr and ample 12 gauge. So I am not worried.

But in my opinion this ammo run is completely ridiculous. This country is in complete all out panic mode. The panic is going to cause far worse damage than the virus will.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a 1911 too, 45acp would be a new caliber for me. Maybe I'll hold off awhile. Nothing worse than buying a new gun and not being able to shoot it!

Don't tell anyone, but I bought some .357 magnum ammo today.

ETA:
My own secret is that I actually bought a brick of Federal GM210M primers off the shelf at a Cabela's store last night. Still had plenty, but couldn't resist. I was standing there staring at it knowing that at my age, my shooting rate, and along with all the other LR primers I have, it was probably the last brick I would buy. So...

I stopped by the local Pawn & Gun shop that I buy a lot of guns from. They were sold out of 9mm and 5.56. They were only selling ammo with gun purchases for the other popular calibers. I’ve known the owner since he was a kid and worked for his dad 20 years ago.
I asked if he had more ammo coming, to which he said it was on order, but he had no idea when it would arrive.
I went home and returned with a 1000 rounds of 9mm and 5.56. I told him to just replace it for me when things calm down, and if he needed some more to just let me know.

That’s a good reminder to us all; when you’re embarrassed about your ammo stock, you have the perfect amount!:D

I have plenty of cartridges for my firearms. The trick is to not shoot it all up.

Yeah, though most of my stockpile is currently powder, bullets, primer and clean cases, so I still gotta do my part.

I am going to tone down my summer shooting schedule for a while, make it last longer.

Thankfully, my wife has always a bit of a hang up about running out of TP. We always have a couple dozen rolls.... yes, a couple dozen.

Yeah, much the same, couple 96 packs downstairs when this all kicked off. After living in bush Alaska for a few years having extra supplies is just second nature to us.
