I made these a while back and thought I would show them off. Local mesquite, inlays, and some stippling with a dremel. Also a little shaping for the trigger finger and for the thumb to reach the mag release on the other side.

Humm, the inlay didn't show up very well. It's a Willie G skull. I'm not big on skulls but wanted to try out my idea.

Yes, that's top notch. Very nice.
I like the texture too.
I have a set of grips that are thinned for the thumb. I like that feature. Much easier to drop the mag.
Well done !

I like 'em.

Too, I love the bouncing irony of a *1911* made in Germany with U.S. flag representation.

Your flag inset presenting as a window or porthole is a great way to go.

Your work is far superior to mine. I dabble but just with the basic profiles. I haven't tried anything fancy yet.

These were made from Ipe. (Factory ones on the left)

Your set looks good to me and would make a perfect set for embellishment. They fit the gun and that's the first requirement. If they don't fit there is nothing you can do to make them look good. When I make a set from fancy wood all I will do is some shaping for the finger and thumb or maybe nothing at all. I don't want anything to detract from the wood grain. I find it kind of silly to hunt down really nice wood and then hide it with checkering, stippling, or inlays. Those are techniques to dress up plain grained wood and it doesn't require a great deal of tools. I quit checkering many years ago as it became so boring. I appreciate nice checkering but just don't have the mindset to mess with it.

Thanks to all for the atta-boys.

Those look pretty good to me. I took my first try at grip working last fall. I cut down and exhaled a set of Thai made grips for a S&W revolver. I have a nice piece of figured maple I should try making some 1911 grips from
