Hi. I just got a Barrett M99. I was just wondering if Barrett lists the caliber on the rifle anywhere.

Good question. I don't recall seeing it though that's not something I ever looked for.

I guess if a .50 doesn't fit... it's .416?

The bolts are the same, so maybe it is on the barrel even if under the shield. I can't imagine Barret wouldn't have it somewhere at least for barrel inventory control though the differences are obvious with a clear view of the breech.

I should imaging firing off a .416 in a .50 could lead to a sporty time.

Todd.

Actually, firing a sub-caliber round in a rifle is really just messy and underwhelming, and moreso the large the case and slower the powder. Rifle powder needs pressure to burn.

With the ultra-slow charge in a .416, most of the powder will depart the muzzle unburnt, and most of the noise will be that enormous primer.

Try it sometime; a .270 fired in a .30-06 is a disappointing firecracker.

I dont think it has the caliber on it, just the model number under the ejection port.

The serial number is right there also if memory serves me right.

Thanks for the update, it's been awhile since I've fondled one and couldn't remember if it had it or not.

My AR-50 has it engraved on the receiver and big enough to not be missed.;)

Yes, that's probably the best place for it!
