Guns hidden throughout the home

There has to be a way to have one or two where you need them and still have them secure from theft. (without having to carry 24/7 in your own home).
There is...have them when you are home and then lock them when you leave. BUT carrying at home kinda solves the problem, yes? ATMO, of course.
I carry when dressed..I out it on the bedside when I go to sleep. If I leave the house, I carry but lock any others up.

Guns, alcohol, cars, power tools, etc., are all just as dangerous as the next.

They could be if used to purposefully harm but put a little context to it.

A loaded pneumatic nail gun or a jig saw under the sink or on top of the fridge isnt the same as a loaded gun if a 4 yr old or intruder finds it.

I have three also, one near the front door, in the master bedroom and in the basement office where my wife works.

Sure, those are good examples.

On the other hand, how about the box cutter in the kitchen junk drawer, or the scissors, or the bleach under the sink.

My point is somehow we keep our kids from hurting themselves with other potentially dangerous household items without putting them in a safe, at least some of us do/have. I'm not advocating leaving your guns laying around the house loose, but somehow most of us have been able to protect our children from hurting themselves without putting every potentially dangerous item in the house in a safe.

My wife works in the NICU and PICU, all that stuff is locked up in our house. She sees firsthand the results if it's not.

As for the past, I somehow did survive never wearing a helmet or seatbelt growing up, but I sure don't want to roll those dice with my kids, especially their friends who might be over and who haven't been trained by me.

I did, but he couldn't find where I hid them either.
Mine would have no troubles finding them, and it wouldnt be good, as they would likely be Glocks and/or AR's, and there wouldnt be much left if they did.

We have three Rotties and there isnt much they cant destroy if they put their mind to it. The 9 month old pup has already turned two loaded M1 Carbine mags and a pouch he fancied and got off the table into worthless hunks of metal and canvas. Hes also managed to crack his SS food bowl playing with it.

We rate the longevity of toys around here by what they cost. Cost in $$ = minutes of life, and its been a pretty good conversion estimate. :)

In my home only me and the wife live in it. All the kids are grown and out on their own. We are the only ones who have keys to the house. No one is ever in our home if we aren't there.
I have several guns hidden and at the ready throughout the home for quick access if a need arises.
Anyone else do this?

No, because this is not a responsible way to store guns. Criminals know how to search. I'd rather they work at least a little bit if they somehow get into my home.

Instead of having to run to a gun and possibly get shot while doing so, I prefer to carry the gun in the house. I find a gun like the Kahr PM9, Glock 26 or SIG P365 to be very convenient for this purpose.

I get what you're saying about the kids and dont disagree. There's zillions of dangers and yet kids keep living :)

You werent makin this point so I'm not being argumentative...

Take the kids out of the equation...
An intruder finding the pneumatic nail gun on the fridge is still not as bad as finding a loaded gun.

I don't leave them stashed around unsecured for the simple reason that I don't want anyone to get it before me. So for the most part, it's either on me or next to me most of the time.

Yes, and all are good things.

The can make unlawful forcible entry more difficult and they can slow it somewhat. But they cannot stop it.
One thing I learned about home security is exactly what you say, all you can do is make things more difficult for the goblins out there and slow them down, which is something they don't want. They want speedy in so the chances of being spotted are less.

Historically speaking, a lot of "impenetrable" fortresses have fallen to invaders. While my home is far from a fortress, I do my best to encourage the invaders to find an easier target. I have upgraded doors and windows, have cameras served by multiple companies and a decent alarm system. Hopefully the goblins will take note and move elsewhere.

Apologies to my neighbors living in Elsewhere, Fla.

I bet they are at least 100 times more likely to be stolen than then are to be used in lawful self defense. Probably closer to 1000 times more likely.
Maybe true, but I care less about them being stolen than about my families self defense.

My neighbor has an hk and sig sticker in the back window of his 80k diesel 4x4.

So I put a hipoint sticker in my sh1tbox tacoma back window.

I think I'm ok.
LOL. Got the idea, but......

do you think a druggie/burglar looking for anything to steal and sell is going to care? Probably figures youre the safer bet, and dont have an alarm. Not to mention, you have a **** gun and probably dont shoot it much. :)

I wouldnt put an NRA (or any other kind of gun related) sticker on my car. As you show, its as good as advertising.

My Tacoma doesn't have any firearms stickers on it for that very reason. It was a post in good fun. :)

And its not a sh1tbox either.

I keep only one loaded gun in the house. All others are locked up and not easily gotten to by anyone other than me and my son.

I feel that hiding guns around the house is a good way to arm an intruder. If someone wants to burglarize your home, it's likely going to happen when you aren't home. You get home and find your home tossed with all of your hidden firearms now on the street arming those that shouldn't be armed.

If an intruder is bold and decides to go the way of a robbery/home invasion, that will likely happen when you're asleep. Considering that we are talking about personal safety, we should assume that they know that you have guns in the house or they are assuming that you have guns in the house. This means one of two things. Either they will come in assuming that you are armed and will be watchful or they will come in looking for hidden firearms. Either way, I feel that keeping firearms hidden around the house is a bad idea. Many burglaries that occur are committed by someone that knows someone that knows the home owner. All it takes is one pair of loose lips.
So, depending on the layout of your house, if say you're in the basement how are you going to get that one loaded gun without being seen by the invaders?

I think too many have the mental image of a burgler at night, but home invasions during the day are not unheard of.

Speaking only for myself, but if it's in the day I've got my CCW on my hip.

Do keep a couple loaded mags near the case in the basement where my AR lives too.
