I recently bought a Steyr GB. The internet at large tells me that the recoil on these is rather soft and pleasant, however I have found mine to be rather sharp and none too soft at all. Not knowing if this was an issue with the gun, me, or the internet's interpretation of "soft", I took some slow motion video of the gun cycling compared to other 9mms. The slide appears to fully open in just 10ms, as opposed to the others at roughly 17ms and 20ms. Does anyone know if this is normal, or if I need to start looking for new springs, bushings, etc.?

It's a delayed blowback gun and it is no surprise for me that the slide moves backwards faster than locked breech pistols. It is also no surprise for me the Beretta Px4 being the slower.
I'd check the gas channel and clean it very well and also the gas piston. Then I'd replace the recoil spring, just in case, if it can be found new.

The gun, vent holes, and gas brake all appear to be quite clean, open, and closely fit, and the recoil spring doesnt seem to be weak (as the forward velocity of the slide closing is in line with the other guns). I think it is working alright, but for the internet reviewers describing the recoil far more favorably... just wanting to make sure.

It also appears to be in excellent conditions. If everything looks good inside then it's the pistol nature.
I once shot a Tanfoglio P25 also sold as Wilson Combat ADP. It's a delayed blowback gas operating gun and the recoil was nasty and not for the gun being small.

I have tried thumbs forward, but my hands are frankly not large enough, so I have figured out what works for me. Regardless of that, gripping them all the same way should still yeild comparable results, and the Steyr, whilst being a fairly linear feeling recoil, is still a good bit sharper. I am willing to accept that as a normal part of the design, it just seems weirdly inconsistant with many of the video reviews.

It's a "thumb over thumb" aka "interlocked thumbs" grip. I use a similar tecnique with some pistols (in my case the position of the thumbs is less "extreme") and I use it expecially when a "thumbs forward" grip interferes with the hold open, not allowing the pistol to hold open after the last round.

Shot it a little more today and attempting to change my grip didnt seem to have much effect on the felt recoil. Whilst cleaning it, I did notice a very slight amount of peening on the very lip of the gas cup corresponding with the corners of the hex nut machined into the barrel breech. If this is not a normal non critical occurance, then it could mean I need a new recoil spring or something... does anybody have one and can check to see if this is normal unconcerning wear?
