The Classic P226: a quick first look

Well done guys. I got an unfired JJ several years ago. It's now been fired several magazine full. Still like it very much. ave a newer P226 in 40 with a .357 barrel(which I have yet to install since I like the 40 so well). And a 229 in 357 with 9mm slide and barrel. This one I bought new in 9mm and converted to .357 before even shooting in nine. Like them SIGs. But since my heritage is Czech, I just got my firsr CZ 75B which is taking most of my shooting/fondling time lately.

Solid pistols. When I was on the job and we transitioned from revos to auto-loaders the SIG was very popular even tho they were expensive. The SIG P226s/P220s gave flawless service, very accurate and very reliable, easy to field strip and maintain.

my 228 slide weighed 10.7 oz, Legacy 229 slide 12.3 oz. An M11A1 slide 11.5 oz.,
Not even an ounce difference between the 228's and the M11A1? Interesting ... I would've guess the M11's was much heavier.

Noticed my West German is serial number U 439 xxx (OP's U 453 xxx) ...LSUDave's got a U 416 and 1KPerDay a U 575. SIG was really cranking 'em out during this period, apparently.
Proof marks same as the OP's:

I have a P226 MK25 that I sent to Sig for a refresh replacing springs pins etc. First day at the range with it and all good. The 226 is smooth shooting, accurate, and, and runs without issues. I have had and have many different pistols and the P226 is one of the best. Great for 3 gun, pistol challenge, range time, and even carry when size does not matter.

Makes you wonder if the guys saying how much better the old Sigs "balance" are just old Sig snobs?

1KPerDay:
Balance difference between mostly-identical gun is not anything I easily notice. That is for the smart people.

The weird snobbery here is that Sigs must have been carried by either German federal agents (Bundeskriminlamt) or police. Both types carried either of my pair of P6.

I love the clasic Sig P-series pistols, my main EDC is a 94 .40 P229. I thought I wanted a 226 and found a heck of a deal on a .40 with a extra .357 Sig barrel and 7 mags for $650 after owning it awhile I figured out it wasn't my cup of tea so I traded it for a P227 SAS which is more to my taste.
here is my 229 &227 together

Wow, a trip down memory lane. My very first gun was (is) a 1987 P226 and I had the same book too. :) Thank you and enjoy!

Thanks! I actually had the pistol out of the safe earlier this evening just to admire it a bit more. With everything else that’s been going on I’ve only been to the range once since January and have not had a chance to shoot it yet. The blackflies are out something fierce right now so I’ll likely wait a few more weeks before my next visit.

Thank you for reminding me to take my classic P-226 to the range next time. Even though I'm spoiled by SIG's SRT trigger, my old SIGs still are so much fun to shoot. The late '80s, early '90s 226s and 228s truly are "classics."

The P226 was one of the first semi-autos issued to new FBI agents back in the day The Newbies simply fell in love with them and they repeatedly tore up the revolver squads on Qual Day.
