Is it time to sell?

Weirdly, it might be getting close to the right time to sell my nagant revolver. Saw one go for 450 today on gunbroker.

it might be time to sell an extra.
Dunno. I have four 1911s, but none are an "extra." Got all of them at a good deal (hence the buy); a deal I'll never see again, too.

What I'm not seeing is another situation like where we were a few years ago, when you could sell your $800AR for $1800 during the panic, but than have to wait most of a decade to be able to replace it at $600. That was a one-off, and you had to be in it for the long haul. And willing to "do without" for a huge long time.

To me, and this is just my 2¢, my "read" of it; any profit will be in tens of dollars, not hundreds, and when--not if--you replace what you sell, it will be at a more expensive, not a less expensive price. So, not even a wash.

First off, inflation has not gone away. I'm reasonably confident that $100 in 2020 is only going to be about $87-92 in 2021. So, let's say you had a $300 in an RIA revolver. Let's say you get $400 for it. What happens to the c-note when a new RIA is $500?

Economics can be very cruel.

Eh, there are certain things I own that I am not in love with. I flirt with selling the nagant revolver for example. I bought it several years ago for a modest amount of money because it was a neat piece of history that I could shoot once in a while. While I appreciate the design and history, it isn't a great gun or something I will carry or shoot a lot.

As I have said before, I am not afraid to sell guns and I currently am selling off quite a few to expand my business. I happen to be in a good position that when COVID breaks (or people just get sick of following COVID rules) my industry will most likely grow like crazy for the better part of a year. Luckily my overhead is so low a few guns here and there will pay for assets that will pay for themselves in one week.

I think we're already past the peak. Even then, it was only for some guns. I listed my MK9 on Armslist in March and had it up for 6 weeks and got all kinds of "I'll give you $300 today" low balls before someone finally offered what I wanted. Normally when I list something it sells within a week.

OP: if you can find some desperate person—after weeks of bad news in the media about the Chinese Virus, riots, and the dreaded "Antifa Urban Alamo"— whose Nerves about their total Lack of Preparation (for anything) probably didn't last this long, you might get lucky.

Over the last several weeks on our Armslist TN, a number of popular handguns and 'sport utility rifles' are still listed.

I watch Sportsman’s and Bud’s, when they can maintain inventory of Smith and Glock we’re back to normal supply.

Price on the other hand may be skewed for quite sometime yet.

I’m real close to what I consider enough and don’t have anything not wanted so my mission is to catch a good deal on a few of the guns I want.

One more round of stimulus money could end my gun buying and make it an ammo buying quest for the rest of my time on this earth. :)

Most distributors like Lipsey's and Sports South are still mostly wiped out. As items come in they go right back out as they fill back orders. Going to be a while before the supply chain fills back up again.

I retract my previous statement. With the political bs going on in atlanta. Blue flu. I kinda wish I still had the AR, shield, charter, and the ammo I've sold. Law enforcement calling in and walking off the job in ATLANTA. Might not be a good time to sell.

We're even having protesters and would-be vandals down here on the Border.
It seems that our local police chief said that he sees nothing wrong with shooting looters.
Some young thugs are marching around City Hall and I've had some vandalism and burglary attempts here at my library.
Nope, I'm not selling, I'm buying.

I’ve sold off a lot of things collecting dust in the back of the safe lately. Several old 870s and a few plastic guns in .40 that I never shoot any more. They sold used for way more than I paid for them. Happy to have the money and glad to have some space in the safe.

I am of a different breed, NOW is the time to BUY quality guns and ammo, some LGS are hiking their prices, others are helping keep things stable for us locals. I am buying quality guns, "some places its the only thing left on the shelf" and quality SD ammo...only thing left. Ammo is pretty much set in the price, .40 to a buck per rd, around here.
Quality used handguns (revolvers :neener:) are sitting and not moving, I have been able to negotiate 2 to 4 hundred less than normal advertised price with no problem. Cheap handguns they can't keep stocked. Seems Good to me but I'm getting low on my mad money. I need help in Florida...come on down and help me make these quality guns fly off the shelf. ;)

I"ve got guns I could sell, but am afraid too.
Example: Glock 38/39 in 45 GAP - why not?
Because if there is ever a stupid, pointless 10 round nationwide mag limit and no grandfathering, the 38 would be a good choice; may as well keep the 39 too.

Basic economics indicate you should buy low and sell high. The market is strong with high demand right now. So if you bought low, yes, now would seem a good time to sell.

Is it time to sell?

No. It is neither time to sell, nor to buy. It's time to hold. These are uncertain times. Wait until the outlook becomes clearer. If you sell now, you may kick yourself next year.
