....anyone have experience with this firearm?...thinking about purchasing one, because I am such a fan of the original German MP40.....can't afford the real thing, so what is your take?...thanks....Willie

Price is fine, solid firearm, very close copy, extra new factory mags are expensive and hard to get. However another $200.- for the stamp if you want w/ stock, deter my ideas of one. Sadly, because is a good overall iconic firearm.

I dont understand...Stamp?.....200.00?....w/stock?....??? thanks

If you want to add a buttstock (folding ala original) you have to buy the dreadful $200.- since it has a sort barrel (less than 16").

$200. For a tax stamp to own a short barreled rifle which is what it becomes if you put a butt stock on it.
I have an ATI .22lr copy of some sort of sub machine gun but it has a fake suppressor covering the 16 inch barrel. So not an SBR.
It's a hoot to play with at the range though.

Just be careful that the fake suppressor is properly attached to keep it from being an accidental SBR

Rifles with a barrel shorter then 16 inches are considered short barreled rifles (SBR) and in order to own one legally federally you need to apply for a federal tax stamp (background checks/paperwork etc) and it will cost $200.00

shotguns under 18.5 inches are the same.

If the gun is sold as a pistol such as with the MP40 clones it may have the shorter then 16 inch barrel and go through the normal purchasing process. If you want to add a stock to that gun you are turning it into a SBR and therefore must go through the hoops and pay your money for the tax stamp before you could legally attach a stock.

This process can take a year or so.

Also remember your state may have laws making owning a SBR illegal.

That is sort of the Cliff Notes.

Yeah, the ATI is just a pistol, no stock installed. There is/was a GSG version (which may now be ATI).
One of the European countries has a similar PPk-41 as a pistol, with no stock, to comply with silly US laws.
They both fire from closed bolt in their modern incarnations, again, to meet US law.
Now, I can't remember if the ATI has the "safety catch" notch in the bolt slot or not.

True. My bad. Mine is indeed a GSG.

It is made by GSG. ATI is the importer. I think it has also been discontinued so if you want one this might be your only chance.

No biggie. GSG made a splash with their MP5 in 22lr. and later, 9mm.
They wound up in an infringement brouhaha with H&K over it, too.
I want to remember they built a 22lr Stg-44, too.

I'm not sure which model mine is a copy of. It has the telescoping stock. Looks like a 9mm sub gun though.

GSG still makes the STG 44 and lists ATI as their US distributor. ATI for some reason does not list the STG 44 on their website. You can still buy them though. GSG still makes their MP5 22lr clone but call the the GSG-16 and made enough cosmetic changes to it to keep H&K off their backs. GSG still makes the MP40 and ATI is the distributor still. It looks like spare MP40 mags are $45 from ATI.

Well, I dropped the dime and bought one...love it....so anyone have any experience in which ammo m maker I should use for this splendid fire arm>???
