Close buddy is getting married: Sword?

Group effort for picking.

I already did a bit of research on good value swords.

We are exploring the world of shields together.

As to who gets what...

I was thinking of giving both the two of them.

I was going to make a toast that sort of ties in the effectiveness of the two tools working together.

The sword and the shield. The yin and the yang.

Still working that part out, of course.

I'm a sword fan, at times, perhaps moreso than guns! Gasp.

I heartily recommend Kult of Athena. Best customer service in the biz. No, I'm not affiliated just a long time customer (2002) and no enticement to say as much.

Sbg (sword buyers guide) forum is also a helpful place.

Cold steel Italian long sword (I think), looks neat, but I've heard of a lot of QC issues and I think for the money you can do better.

Windlass towton, arbedo are both great.

The suggestion for the hanwei tinker line is also very solid for the price.

Really depends on the culture or style you're going for. Happy to make suggestions if you would wanna elaborate!

Also, though I love the full tang proper carbon steel blades, I'm also a huge fantasy fan (in particular, lord of the rings!).

For non functional as swords, but amazing to hold, swing, hang on your wall etc united cutlery makes great lord of the rings replicas. Usually can get a good price for those items at budk (I think they bought uc when they went bankrupt).

Sorry, but I do not think it is an appropriate item to be presented at the wedding. When you would present it he will be married. His wife will be part of the relationship between the three of you. You will not just be toasting him (I hope). You will be or should be toasting both of them. It is not an awards ceremony. It is a marriage toast. Get on the fence with your wife, and then get on the other side. Hope I did not offend.

Get everything engraved ... shouldn't cost much ... I think Museum Replicas, Knife Center, etc most all will do that.

You could also be creative in the engraving ... A&B, etc or maybe something like 'Ouch'

it will be a toast for both.

My wife landed on the "lets get them a sword" side so... LOL

I know he will appreciate it and I am pretty sure she will have a good time with it too.

Hilarious! Love Alton, he does a great job. I happen to have a saber just like his, too.

I agree. Plus, it's gonna be something different -- too many weddings and receptions are so predictable and frankly, trite. While I love tradition, gotta liven things up a bit.
