Best $39 I have spent in a long time. I bought one to try and nail the stupid stink bugs that have gotten in all over the house. They hang out on the ceiling and walls where I can't reach them. The Bug A Salt won't kill them but it drops them to the floor pretty quickly. Flies and wasps, obliterated. I actually mix a bit of corse Kosher salt in with slightly finer stuff for a sort of buck and ball
As for the topic at hand, rock salt shells were a real thing out in the country where I grew up in the 80s. Most folks used it for running off dogs or cats. They knew they belonged to folks and didn't want to kill the animal, but it wasnt uncommon for people to just let their animals roam since fences were pretty rare.
