Slim pickings out there...

The not so funny thing is that all the distributors are completely wiped out of stock. I cannot replenish anything and I don't see that changing in the near future.
Having been there and done that during the Clinton Administration I can relate very well. Once you sell what you have you can't replenish stock and you can't sell what you don't have. However, the rent comes due, the insurance is due, the utility bills and the list goes on. People don't seem to get it and somehow you become the bad guy. People have an option to buy or pass and they should just exercise that option.

Stopped by a pawn shop today. They had a well used Ruger Standard for $469.00! Prices on other handguns were as much as new. This is in Salem, Or.
Last Friday a friend said she was told 1 week for the background check. Here we go through FICS which is run by the state police. She was told there were 3,800 people in front of her.
We had two showcases full of used firearms, we're now down to 8. Firearms, not showcases. All of the rest of my stock is new guns we ordered in to fill the cases. Our prices haven't changed unless our costs have changed.

Background checks are running up to 24 hours according to the FDLE webpage. That said, a few were almost instantaneous, others took as much as 20 hours. And, for some reason, we're seeing a lot more "Decision Pending" results, almost all of which are pending the next millennium , I think. We have one customer who was approved 3 weeks ago who is now a DP. <shrug>

Just had a customer come in and want to know why we have a certain handgun for $249 (under msrp) when a major national retailer has them on their website for $109. Looked it up. He's right. Except they don't have any in stock and it's a short term sale price. Says right on the website out of stock both in the local store and can't order with ship to store as they're out of stock in the warehouse also.

I explained that with that logic I'd sell him every Mossberg tactical I have in stock for $100. But I don't have any. A sale price is only meaningful if they have them in stock.

Electronic bait and switch.

This is a screenshot of the current login for FDLE. We have had a few b/r checks today come in between right away and a couple of hours.

I have been recommending single shot break action type shotguns in 20 ga & 12 ga to new shooters. Easy mechanics & effective especially with practice. These types of guns are still out there especially in pawn shops at the $100 mark. With a $25 leather eBay shell holder I could defend my family in a pinch. 5CEA1199-C124-465A-B5E8-E5BE105C1E69.jpeg

They thump you, though. If it's all you can find, sure. But to actually shoot? Not the best for new shooters IMO.

As a kid i grew up with a single shot shotguns i never felt under gunned with one hunting you can run one pretty fast if you practice

I grew up with one too, it was called a "Long Tom" don't recall how long the barrel was but you could literally poke a turkey's eye out.

Well. I wish I had bought a 92FS or PT92 when they were available. I kept looking/waiting for either a $400 used one or a sub $500 new one. Now all I can find are the newest "" series with the straight back strap grip.

I'm just back from Sportsman's Warehouse a few minutes ago. No 22LR. No 9mm. No 223/556. TONS of 10MM and a LOT of 40SW. A few 12 ga slugs. NO buckshot. LOTS of waterfowl steel and upland bird ammo. Guns: LOTS of duck hunting shotguns. ONE flat top AR. A few Henry lever 22s. About their normal stock of revolvers. Only the very highest end 9mm were left. Quite a few guns in 380.

The other thing that took me aback and confused me somewhat was that their gun cleaning/maintenance section had been hit hard. Is their now a run on that stuff, too?
I got one I'll sell for $3000 I'll throw in the knife and pen. It is a little used I bought it brand new in 1983.;)

I was surprised at one of my local shops (and indoor range) when I stopped by the other day.

Rifle racks were fully stocked, they almost exclusively sell black rifles of one stripe or another and the pistol cases were as jammed full as I've ever seen them. They are a big Sig dealer so it was mostly 320s and a number of Legions, but they were well stocked if you needed a Sig.

Or higher end CZ, and a couple HKs.

Prices were a bit higher than normal though.
