No plastic gun, ever, will be collectible.

There's not enough I don't care if my Glock (or any other gun I own) is "collectible" in the world.

That's literally the reason I carry a Glock. If (God Forbid) I ever have to shoot someone and my gun vanishes into the black hole of the evidence locker...... so what?

It's a Glock there are a million more exactly like it. I'll by one of them and never think about the first one again.

It'll do till something better gets here. :)

The 17 that is, not the 19.

I'm happy with my 19 and since I can only have 15 rounds anyway I don't gain anything with a 17.

Whos collecting? Im just trying to wear them out. :p

Best answer so far. I have a couple of 17s on my watchlist now. I have never owned a Glock except for a 357 sig version I bought at the gunshow that my bud wanted it so bad I sold it to him 30 minutes after I got home with it. For a profit too. He still has it to this day.

All Time??? That spans quite a millennia.. A metric ton of wars were fought well before the advent of Glock.

Plastic guns are for children. No plastic gun, ever, will be collectible. That's how I feel and should have no impact whatsoever on anyone else. More plastic guns for you, everyone is happy.
I bought an Sig M17 MHS for $799, could sell it for $2,500+ easy. Sounds collectible to me :)

It’s kind of old news, but the Marine Corps has already picked the Sig M18 as their new sidearm. There are a lot of Marines that are not happy. Their Glock 19s were battle proven. But there will always be those Marines that don’t care about what guns they get, as long as they work.
We all know the problems that the Sig M17 suffered after it was adopted by the Army. The good thing about the M18 is that it has all the upgrades that the M17 got to fix the problems it had.
Now some may say that I’m a Glock fan because I have good things to say about them. But I also have over 18 years of experience carrying a Glock as a duty weapon. So I will say, I like guns that work and Glocks do work.
But I also believe that one should know something about what they are talking about. So far I like the Sig M17 and the M18. I know this because I own one of each. I also have plans to buy a Sig P320 Carry. I already have extra grip frames and magazines.

Now for the question of , Is Glock the best combat pistol of all times? I think that would depend on a person’s experience and how the gun fits them. I have some friends that just don’t care for Glocks. I also have friends that just switched to Glock when the Gen5 came out.
I’m not sure if I would say that the Glock is the best combat pistol of all times, but it is one hell of a pistol that has helped send many other, so-called, Combat Guns to an early grave.

The Glock is a pretty good fighting handgun, one of many on the market today. "Best" is subjective - there's a whole lot of competition out there. In historical terms, it is certainly the most significant design of the last 40 years, but it doesn't have nearly the body of work to be in the conversation with guns like the 1911 or Model 10.

Not having been in the military it seems that if youre counting on your sidearm for combat things probably aren't going your way. That being said I voted no because of the 1911

Honest question from another guy who never served: do handguns play any sort of role in modern warfare?

I carried a 1911 for eight months in Viet Nam and never fired it once in combat. Why would I? I had a perfectly fine M-16A1. It was a comfort in a foxhole at night though. I only saw one fired in combat once by a M-79 Grenadier (They all were issued .45's) that ran out of grenades but wanted to keep fighting. If your a Grunt and have to go to your pistol, you have major problems.

So the OP links to a story from November 2017, years ago, and since then, the USMC has selected the SIG P320 as its new pistol.

Yawn. Old idea, old news

Trolling.

This thread should be closed now before the usual "Glocks are the best invention since the internet" or "Glocks are the spawn of the devil" comments commence.

That would be the Sig M18. You know how the military is, they have to have their own model number for a gun.

Well, most of the time ... but we called the .45 the 1911, and during my brief time as an investigator, they made me carry a S&W Model 36 that didn't have its own model number (gosh, now they get the M11s) ... still had to do the NHQC with that sucker, brutal.

Senior Chief Day's story is legendary, for sure.
