Quiet Vibratory Cleaner

I put a 5 gallon bucket over mine and it quiets it enough to not be overly annoying.

The motor doesn't over heat.

I've got the Frankfurt one, it works well but I don't consider it quiet. I just put it in the garage and it's good to go. I recommend keeping your vibratory out of your living space, some of the dust created is toxic- that's a good reason to not worry too much about the noise.

Good suggestion as most lead dust comes from primers.

As my doctor and I figured out, most of lead intake that increased my blood lead level came from breathing in lead dust while picking up brass from indoor range.

When I stopped shooting at indoor range but still handled lead bullets, sorted and processed spent brass, my blood lead level returned to normal.

I have a Lyman 1200 that is about 10 years old. I use it outside and put and 5 gallon pail over it to keep clean and quiet. When using it inside I do the same thing. This does keep it real quiet.

My vibratory tumbler isn't as loud when running on a carpeted floor. I don't run anything on top of it so it stays ventilated. A rotary tumbler would be much more quiet.

Cabela's unit looks just like a Hornady and a little cheaper; $65 last year. (They have them on sale around $50 black Friday.) I run mine on top of an old piece of carpet. You can invert the shipping box on top which will help a little more.

Iosso Brass Case Cleaner--takes seconds, quiet, re-useable. I use it exclusively now to clean all my brass..

The cabelas vibratory cleaner is pretty darn quiet. I haven’t heard many different models but I can’t imagine someone being upset with the level of noise it makes.

I sifted through all the comments and suggestions I chose the Frankfort Arsenal unit. $49.99 w/free shipping. It showed up today. 5 minute "assembly/setup." The bowl assembly is separated from the motor by pretty stout springs. The cleaning media won't be here until Wednesday. Regardless, I powered it up for a few moments. Best description I can think of is a low, very quiet hum. Light years better than the old RCBS I had many years ago. Clearly this will operate on the garage floor sitting on an old bath rug, and we'll never notice it inside the house. If it cleans well, I will have achieved three goals: functional, inexpensive, quiet.

Thanks for all the responses!

I have owned a few different vibratory cleaners. In the noise department, all have benefitted from being placed on a concrete floor, and an appropriate sized styrofoam box placed over it while it runs.

I have 2 vibratory cleaners. One is the Midsouth brand (who knows who actually made it) and the other is the large Dillon.

I only keep the midsouth around for lube removal duty. The Dillon does a much better job of cleaning. Neither of them are real noisy.

Just a word of caution. I don’t think I would run any cleaner on carpet. I’m pretty sure the cooling vents on my midsouth are on the bottom.

Whatever tumbler you end up with, you may be able to make it quieter by running it on a very solid surface, like a concrete floor. If you have to run it on a table or benchtop, you can make it a bit quieter by isolating the tumbler from the table with foam, rubber, or simlilar--but do make sure you don't block any ventilation paths. Some tables make fantastic sounding boards.
