Anyone shooting he LCP 22?
Doesn't seem to be a very popular firearm. Picture with Kahr P380, Beretta Pico
Phoenix HPA and LCP22

How do you like it? I'm interested in one. 10 rounds in such a small size.

I had some initial problems to start off with concerning reliability. The biggest problem I have had is the trigger. Weird Ruger Trigger. A long free play that feels like the trigger spring is broke and then a Wall and then a quick Bang. I am so use to a smooth DAO like the Pico and the Kahr. Presently shoot both of those much better than the Ruger. But I am slowly adjusting to it. The gun seems to have Broken in and shot it a few days ago and it ran perfectly with Rem Goldens which seem to be the preferred ammo for this gun.
Regardless, I love shooting the Pocket guns and shooting 380 is out of the question, obviously. It is imperative to keep up the point and shoot skills with this size gun. So the trigger is a concession I will live with. This gun is now getting a lot of workouts along with my LCR22 which I love dearly. I will never understand why Ruger moved away from the GEN 2 which had a nice DAO trigger. My guess is many just cannot shoot one as well and target shoot these guns more than fast action.
And the LCP22 is a fun gun at the range.

Here is one drill I do all the time with pocket guns. Take a target put three Glow targets on and shoot as FAST AS YOU CAN PULL THE TRIGGER MOVING FROM MIDDLE TO BOTTOM TO TOP etc. 7 yds.

As you can see I have a long way to go with this gun, but give me a month and I believe the results will be much better. Presently, I can do much better now with the Pico and Kahr and at almost double the distance. I really need to get better with the feel of this gun and the Trigger. Will post another pic of this drill in one month out to 10 yds.

Wow, a few months go fast. Really did not get to shoot the LCP as much as I would have liked. But took it to the range yesterday. The gun is breaking in fine and I went through about 200 rds of mixed ammo. Still having a hard time adjusting to the Ruger Trigger. But had few failures other than some Federal with primer strikes. Not sure what they were as I had brought a bag with mixed ammo. I also shot Some Aguila interceptor with no problems.
Regardless, here is a target set out to 15 yds and RAPID FIRE, just dumping magazines by pulling the trigger as fast as possible. It seemed to handle the rapid fire with no problems. And a bad round was no problem to fix with the easy slide.
At present I can shoot the 380's I own much better as well as the LCR22, but still improving a little on the LCP 22. Really do wish it had a DAO trigger which I am use to.

I got mine in June and it goes out at least once per week. At last count it's at 3500 rounds. I've only had ammo related issues with it, mainly bulk ammo but it will not cycle CCI Stingers reliably. Perhaps a little too much snap for it, the slide lock will engage itself from time to time.

@Ernie Bass, can you give an opinion on the mag safety and slide safety? i would love to get this gun as a trainer but am balking on these two issues.

nice shootin! looks like head shots @ 15 yards are no problem for you.

The Magazine release is nice. They spring out nicely. I do have to make sure they are seated well. The slide/trigger safety is weird. I have engaged it a few times while shooting. But I have a size large hand with long fingers. Other owners report no problem The only problem I have is the trigger as I mentioned. That long free play that feels as if the Trigger spring is broken and then the wall with no travel is not suited for the DAO deliberate and controlled all the way through and that tactical feel that I have come to appreciate.
The magazine does have a disconnect safety but that has never bothered me like some folks. I have no problem with it. The gun has a nice build and streamlined. Again, very easy to rack the slide if a failure. Some folks like the Ruger Trigger, you might be one of them. Just not my cup of tea.
It is a gun that is fun to shoot. Once I get into a little more I am sure I will appreciate more. It was great to see Ruger build a pocket gun trainer like this gun. I think once I find the perfect ammo, there will be no more misfires.

I am considering this as a carry gun for the wife. She is getting on up in years and does not handle recoil at all. She also does not have the hand strength to rack a normal slide. Would this LCP II in 22 LR be reliable enough for her to EDC carry in her purse?

Joe

The racking is sure easy so that is not a problem. Easy to train with and train often at a low cost. So, I would say that you most likely could find a ammo that shoots well in the gun. Mark 40 above seems to have found one. Good luck and safe shooting.

I wish Ruger had put a better front sight on the gun. I only do fast point and shoot with my 380's and need a good front sight to see in the Peripheral view of my eyesight. At 15 yds it was hard for me to really get a good picture with the Ruger.. And if I was for what ever reason wanting to carry the gun, a front night sight is a must for me.
The Pico and Kahr are good examples of nice sights. And I have night sights on all of those. At 7 yds it is no problem with the Ruger but going further out takes a more eye straining.Just really hard to pick up the front sight.

I do not think at this point, reliability will be much of a issue. I have not even tried and CCI yet. It shoots Remington Goldens fine, other than a occasional light strike which could be the ammo. All major failures I had came from the mixed bag of ammo I had brought and they all had a "F" head stamp. Which Federal, I do not know.
I also have a Mcarbo extra power spring which I have not put into the gun yet.
I also notice they have a EXtra power Magazine spring. At this point I do not feel any need for that.

https://www.mcarbo.com/ruger-lcp-2-extra-power-recoil-spring-22lr-only.aspx

PS-I also see mcarbo has a trigger pull reduction that that brings the trigger from 5- 6 lbs to about 3lbs and Under. Personally I think that is Insane for this gun.I personally would not advise it. Trying to make a Pocket gun into a Target gun just does not make any sense. And especially dangerous.
I really wish Ruger had put in a trigger like the LCP Gen 2 (not to be confused with LCPll) would have been great. The LCP now sold has a very good DAO that does work like a good DOA. Smooth and consistent all the way through.

That is how we ended up with one. Wife is VERY recoil sensitive. She has been through a LOT of EDC guns in the past 25 years. When the LCPII hit she tried one in a shop one day. Dry fire it was of course light years ahead of the little .32 she was using from Kel-Tec. I told her don't buy it because I knew the recoil would be too much. She bought it anyway. She could BARELY rack a round into it and it was all she could do to manage. Before she got the first 5 rounds out of it she was done. So it became mine, love it. When I saw they were making it in .22 I told her and she jumped on one. I ran 500 rounds to make sure it worked and no problem. She LOVES the pistol. Certainly not "ideal" caliber but at least she can and will shoot it. Dream to carry. Only thing I did not like was the damn mags. They are a B!TCH to try to load without the tool they include. Wanted to buy a couple more to make sure we did not get to the range without one. Of course none for sale then as it was new. Was able to easily adapt a loader made for the .380 though.

Lol, yes the mags are a real pain to load. I am going to have to find my loader and also order a spare. Glad t to hear your wife love the gun. Enjoying a small barrel Pocket gun is a challenge but fun as heck to shoot. This little gun should be a great start into this niche hobby. And will make her a better shoot for all guns.

I have not looked for a while but, if they are still not easy to find it is easy to adapt a
380 one. I just used a Dremel to thin the pin till it fit inside the .22 mag. I would NOT want to get to the range and not have one of the tools to load the mags :fire:

It's a fun little gun. Haven't had any problems with loading the mags. Only gripes we have are the front sight & the safety is a little odd. Plan on painting the sight & probably just won't use the safety. Don't have one on my lcp 2 380.
