What is your grail knife?

Mister Coffee,

If you like that offering from BR, whatever you do, don't look at the Fobos MKB-9! Seriously, don't!;)

I'm not responsible if you don't listen to my warning.

Dunno why. I use mine all the time. Gave one to my son and he broke the tip off working with it (Ann graciously had it reground for me to give back to him).

Obviously the pricepoint scares many away. Admittedly, I don't bang on mine like I would, say, a Mora. However, I do use it. Opens boxes, cut and strip wire, etc. They certainly aren't just pocket jewelry;)

The Sebenza is one of the few folders that will withstand what constitutes abuse of just about any folder. There are a couple of others now, but Chris's folder was the first of the high end tough as possible folders and still at the top of the class.
Agreed, I also have been a long time fan of Rick Hinderer knives, I've had 5 XM 18's of different sizes and grinds and interestingly I kept the one I disliked the most at first, the 3" Wharncliffe. I think that XM18 design pattern is one of the best knife designs of all time. I don't care for much of anything outside the XM18 series from RHK though...

I think the Sebenza, XM18 and Spyderco Delica are my top 3 favorite designs of all time...

She seems to be doing a great job with the company, I heard their customer service is still top notch and quality control is great. Which flavor of sebenza do you carry? Large, small? I agonize about making those decisions, somebody else made the decision for me. Anne's lil anodization schemes are very interesting, not really for me but very cool nonetheless. Something for everybody.

I had a large and switched to the small since I didn't need the larger/heavier knife. Chris and I and Ann and I, and their son, have chatted for years at Blade. The company is one of the best in the world, as are the people in it.

And if you like that one...

The Bravo 2 line is another knife they make that's nice. The one in particular that I like is the Bravo 2 Ghost Jade.

My grail knife, though it is unattainable for me, is a Loveless Drop Point Hunter. I held one at the 2005 Blade Show and again in Bob's shop. They were $3600 at that Blade show, don't know what they'd be now.

Valkman,
I've seen some of your knives and they would definitely make the grail list also.

Post some pics.

Here is a pic of an Alpha Beast Infinity w/ polished S35VN blade. Mods done by Matt Cook. It has really nice color transitions in the light, custom handmade pocket clip, and ever so slightly uneven swedge grind. I have $700+ into this knife. I like it, I kind of left it to him to just do his thing but if I could go back I probably would have gone with a solid color or bright polished handles.....

I clipped a seperate photo of the blade profile into the pic...

i,m not a big knife man, mostly a knife to me is a tool if it works i keep it, if not i give it away. that being said i traded a tracker in africa for this stuart smith custom made knife, how the tracker got it i don,t know. i now use it on animals hunted here.

Pie in the sky.

Original Fairbairn-Sykes V-42 pattern.

I think the closest I will ever get to it though would be for me to make one myself.

I know Case produced some replicas a bit back. That could be an option. Not really a knife guy though so it is low on my list of items but as far as knives fo, it is my grail knife.

Here you go.

Well, that didn't work...

I have a thing for swing gaurd lockblades....
View attachment 944677 The top knife is a surprisingly good Marble's brand, the bottom is a Queen Steel.
I am hoping to add a stag Schatt & Morgan.
Maybe a Schatt & Morgan, or AG Russell barlow too.
I've got that same Marbles in Red Bone. They are surprisingly good, agreed.

About the CRK knives. I just had to have one too. Got an Inkosi with the Insingo blade. Very nice superbly designed and manufactured knife. But I've just never warmed up to it.

As to grail knife..... I recently saw some really nice William Henry knives. Uh oh, look out credit card.

When I hear "grail knife" I think of a knife so expensive or hard to obtain, that I'm unlikely to ever own it.

I've wanted a blade from Randal Made Knife for years but was always put off by the long wait from the manufacturer or the price to obtain one on the third party market. If I had to pick a specific model, I might choose the Model 12 - Raymond Thorp Bowie.

Way too many to list. Here's a few I'd really like to own.

There's more and I haven't even mentioned true custom knives.
I did some more thinking on this and frankly I could have sworn it was an aspirin I took that morning. Aspirin comes in unmarked bags right?

The ZT 606, while I like the form, as I look closer there is just too much going on there. All the colors and crap make the knife look cheep. A simpler color scheme and satin blade would go a long way in my mind. I have a 609 and like it very much. But my desire to own the 606 has passed.

I wanted a Hinderer because I know they are well designed and well built. I like practical knives. Beauty can still be practical, but I realize there are some design elements here I don't like. Off the list.

The Sebenza is by all accounts a pretty nice knife, but I realized I can get along without one.

The ADV Butcher...… I do really like big choppers in theory, but the more research I did on those knives the more I realized it was breaking a tenant of knife purchases I have. It is going to be far too wide to ride comfortably in my pocket, and allow me to reach in past it to get to other items. I use my knives, so that's a no go. I may still pick one up at some point to try out, but it's just too wide when closed.

The ZT0999 is an interesting piece to me and showcases some very fine metallurgy skills. I know it isn't practical in any way, but I still reserve that one and the ZT0777, as a user, as grail knives for me. I really like ZT knives and own a few.

However I just ordered a Bestech…………….
