SNS Hard Cast .44 mag 240gr LSWC are what i got at the moment to work with.
Company told me to keep them under 1,200fps but i will be hopefully shooting for more like 1,100 fps.
My goal is to have a round that has the "dead nuts" accuracy of lightweight target stuff but also has some Magnum authority so I would deer/ hog hunt with it with no question.
WW296 and H-110 are out of the question for this round obviously. 2400 also seems to perform best higher up ranges than Id like to go, although it downloads better than 296.
The 3 other powders i have are Blue Dot, Win 231, and Power pistol. Im thinking maybe an upper end load with a powder of the latter 3? Any suggestions or experiences? Thank you. BTW:
S&W 29-2 8-3/8"
Dan Wesson SS- 744. 6"

AA #9 or N-110 will do what you want, but I don't know why they told you to keep them under 1200 FPS. I'll bet a dollar against a bucket of slop they'll happily do 1300 FPS. Very curious why they said <1200 FPS

I've used 9.5 gr of HP38 (W231) with that bullet for around 1125 fps in my 6½" model 629 with excellent accuracy.

I know the bullets will shoot fine past 1,200, i agree with you there. I wonder what kind of leading will occur in the barrel? I wonder if that is the reason they are saying stay 1200 or less.

Ive utilized a similar situation in 357 magnum, with 158gr LSWC cast and 2400. Loaded up a batch up around 90% of max or greater, and had lots of leading issues. Those bullets were made by a one-off and i think casted with a soft lead alloy. I can scratch into that lead with my fingernail. We all know good hardcast bullets are harder than that.

These SNS hard casts are definitely harder than that.

If throat, bore and bullets are coordinated correctly you should have no problem with leading. I shoot 44’s cast from wheel weights past 1200 FPS with no leading issues

I quickly moved from 240gr to 300gr in .44 magnum, so my early load workups were before I had a chronograph. But I ran the SNS 240gr coated bullets with 20.6grs of 2400 (Lyman 50th Max). My notes say nothing about leading issues, and I don't remember having that problem with either a 4.62" or 5.5" barrel.

I have some 240grain Keith looking lead bullets that I loaded with 20 grains of 2400 Via Alliant Load Data (max Load) and Winchester Large Pistol primer. (The powder is vintage for what its worth) out of my 7 1/2 inch Ruger super black Hawk they shoot right at around 1400 FPS. I only shot six test loads and had no leading issues.
