IMR 4227: What can I do with it ?

I've used Unique to load everything from .380ACP to heavy .41 and .45 Colt loads, excellent results across the board... it really is... Unique. Yes, you are better off with faster powders for 'target' or softball loads, and certainly there is a place for the slower big-boomer powders, but Unique will do about 80% of all that. Never tried PowerPistol, and I was not impressed with the 'new Unique'... BE-86.
I keep reading claims that be86 is pp with flash supprecent. Any truth or untruth to that I. Your observations

That's what they say. I believe the technical name for PowerPistol is actually BE-84.

I tried it in a few cartridges... 9mm, .45ACP, .45 Colt and I just didn't care for how it performed. I hit a velocity limit with my short-barreled Kahr 9mm's, I decided it was a little too slow for that application. It didn't do anything in the .45ACP that Unique wasn't doing already, and I got the oddest report and recoil in the .45 Colt, so much so that I stopped shooting them. I have about 1/4 # left, I'm going to burn it up in the .45ACP... and be done with it.

Edit: I also see in my notes where I tried it in the .41MAG, where it had consistent velocity but was meh on accuracy. 1250fps and 1550fps in a 4" Smith and a 20" Marlin, respectively.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been teetering on the fence about giving it a try. Done with pp when the pound is gone. Also prefer unique.

4227 is pretty useful in anything that you'd also use H110 in; 30 Carbine, 300 Blackout subsonic rounds etc. And it's really sweet in 450 Bushmaster!.

From what I can find IMR 4227 has been around since WW2.
Here is 308 data from the 2003 catalog.
For me, I load it in .357 mag. 45 Colt. 300 AAC. 7.62X39

I was looking at some of my old load data for that info, too... I found it interesting that it included data for 180grn (.308) and 200grn (.30-06) bullets. I would not have guessed it would be good for that, and looking at the pressures and velocities it develops with those bullets, particularly compared to slower powders, I see I was right. Where there's a will, there's a way... I guess.

It’s the most accurate powder I’ve found for my .44 H&R Handi rifle.

21 grains under a 240 gr. XTP does the trick on whitetail.
