This might sound like a dumb question but for me the answer is easy. It's not a firearm, NFA item, type of hunt, animal trophy or anything like that. My ultimate firearm related fantasy is a huge gunroom/vault with concrete walls, ceiling and floor, a huge steel door, alarm system, firearms on racks on all of the walls, work benches for reloading and firearms projects, storage for everything related to this passion, a place for a computer and a big screen tv to watch YouTube videos. Basically a huge walk-in safe.

OK ... what's yours?

My dream is very specific, and completely unattainable. I want a real FG 42, not a reproduction. Ian said that there are 26 on the ATF registry. ( not counting the three at the Arsenal Museum ) Rare birds, indeed. I think there are probably more living California Condors than there are transferrable FG-42s. Then there is the matter of price. A beat up FG42 goes into six figures. The one I am holding appears to have never been fired.....

Im with you here! The "basement under the basement" with a secret entrance is my dream.
And a secret tunnel leading up to an outside portal in my big hollow oak tree.....

Well seeing as how this is a fantasy, then I must have won the Lottery and now I can buy a serious amount of land somewhere and have my own private indoor/outdoor shooting range. And just for fun I would love to have just about every full auto or selective fire weapon that I could obtain. Top of the list would be an M45 Quad Fifty suitably mounted on an M16 Halftrack, just so I can have my firepower a bit more mobile!

Agree with @bannockburn. No need for additional firearms; I have plenty and my needs are simple. But I would love to own a piece of property where I could hunt whitetail, coyotes, groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits, etc., have sufficient space to shoot out to 600+ yards, and not have to worry about disturbing the neighbors. And the log home would definitely need a dedicated gun/safe room. Attainable? Maybe. Still have a few years to retirement and if the investments stay on track, it's not outside reason, if I focus on the land and build modestly.

Mine sounds simple, but there’s a whole bunch more to it than the initial thought. I want a shop which is relatively secure in which to work on and build guns. That means a knee mill, a lathe, heat treating furnace, quench tank, a pile of tooling for the machines, a few benches for various projects, a reloading area, a large area for storage of guns and ammo, and a lane from corner to corner totally unobstructed to give me at least 20 yards to test fire the guns which also means a shooting bench and a bullet trap. For safety purposes that means ridiculous amounts of moving air, and a suppressor that can handle the majority of the things I would shoot.

Sounds simple enough right? Not so simple. Most machine tools worth having run on 3 phase 480v power supply. It’s not terribly hard to create that but it would be preferable to have it on tap, but that means it would essentially have to be in an industrial park and that’s no bueno for a few reasons. Put mine at my house, but I don’t have 3 phase 480 so build me a nice sized pond with a small hydroelectric dam setup.

It doesn’t take much... just a shop to tinker in...

Sitting by the fireplace in the fantasy gun room/library imagining an Alaskan Brown bear hunt with handgun. Picturing the bears mouth open, growling, charging on his hind legs coming right for me....do I face him eyeball to eyeball and take him out before he gets me.....or pee my pants and run screaming. (I may never know) :uhoh:

The guns I want are attainable and somewhat affordable in the low 5 figure range; that said, the fantasy part would be several hunts as follows:
Wild California quail in Patagonia, Argentina
Driven partridge in Spain
Driven grouse in Scotland

I have a desire for a pair of Purdey or Greener bespoke double guns. Made to my fit and measure, modestly engraved, and with the finest walnut. Naturally housed in a made to fit case of walnut, with a full complement of tools and equipment.

Of course, this case must have pride of place in a finely built gunroom. You know, walnut panels, trophy heads hung all around, and plenty of bookshelves and one wall solely dedicated to a built in gun cabinet. And, don't leave out the big fireplace and the snooker table!

Ah dreams... But since I live in a 1200 square foot house and haven't won the lotto, it'll never happen.

I'd take the Purdeys over the Greeners every day of the week. have held and shot one for a few shots; exquisite workmanship..............

I forgot to mention, I'd like hammer guns. Hammer-ejectors, to be precise. I think it's Purdey's who make them, and therefore covet a pair of them. Do they shoot as good as they look, George?

What a gorgeous room! I can imagine sitting in a rich leather chair, drinking fine brandy, fondling an H&H double rifle all the while listening to someone tell of their hunts on the Dark Continent.

I think that fantasies are a good thing. They tend to point us in the right direction. We might not reach our final destination but we'll see and achieve all sorts of things on the journey. I've been thinking of excavating under my house for a few years now, one bucket at a time. :D
