I decided I'd spent too much time indoors so went for a woods walk.
I carried by Victorinox Astronaut and an old Frosts mora.

On some steep terrain the Frosts came in handy for forming a walking staff. I cut a two and a half inch sapling free by notching to the center 3/4 of the way around and simply snapping it and did the same to shorten it on the thinner end. Simple and effective. I was glad I did since it allowed me to keep my footing and push brush aside as I followed a deer track.

We were visiting Yellowstone years ago when a big summertime storm blew up. We were visiting a rendezvous in West Yellowstone when it hit, knocking down tips and kicking up the dust. When we arrived at our rental house there was an aspen tree across the driveway. I trimmed some limbs and made some walking sticks as momentos of our adventures in Yellowstone, and other places.

We saw several bear both in Yellowstone and Canada, so i added a bear head where there was a twig protruding. A compass caps the top.

Very cool. This has been the year of the knife and stick for me. I bought a lot of sticks from stick makers in Ireland, and I bought a lot of very nice production pocket knives.

Haven't found the right one to harvest and work on myself yet, but there is ironwood around and I still aim to find a good one and work it over. Not sure if I should seal it up fast to maintain moisture or dry it for 2+ years. Might crack a lot if I do. I have a pellet stove in my home and could see placing it in the corner behind it to aid in drying, sort of how shillelagh makers used to tie them up in their chimney.
