I want to book my first hog hunt somewhere around Tennessee or Georgia but I can't find what I'm looking for. I want to hunt in the wild (no canned or fenced hunts) and I'm not interested in a trophy or luxury hunting experience.

A simple 3 day trip would be perfect: drop me off at the stand in the morning or evening and pick me up a few hours later. If I shoot a hog help me dress and quarter it so I can take it home in coolers. Ideally I'd like to stay at a camp that's comfortable and has good food but I don't need luxury amenities.

Any thoughts?

I’m in TN and would be interested. I know a few guys with hogs on their property but the state has some odd rules about hunting them. You have to be on a landowners list of exterminators or some such mess to kill them and the reason I have heard is that the state regulates it that way to prevent people from intentionally increasing hog population just to sell hunts. It’s a mess.

I fully agree with Chicksaw, Texas is a mecca for hog hunting. We are overrun by them. It’s almost as big of a business as trophy whitetail hunting.

Did a hog hunt years ago. Threw the guide off as we did NOT want to be put into a stand nor did we show up with rifles. Wanted to hunt on the ground with pistols (which worked fine for us). If you get put into a stand it likely will be over a feeder and while not bad isn't much of a hunt as they show up like rats to eat.

I got a 300+lb hog and we had a great hunt! If we had some home with nothing we would have been fine with that also as we went to HUNT not shoot.

All that said, think about what you really want and your goals. If you have to come home with an animal that is a different ask than a good hunt.

It’s going to be hard to find a hunting place that isn’t fenced. But not impossible. Hogs are very transitory. If you’re after a kill, fenced is the way to go. If you’re after a hunt, why not get on Facebook (I know, I know) and look for Georgia hog hunting groups, see is there is a place with a large population on public land, find a processor that will do feral hogs, and just get a motel? I’ve heard from a few members on here there are places in Georgia that you just walk in the public land and shoot. Hogs literally everywhere. Maybe they were blowing a certain degree of smoke. But I’d bet they aren’t blowing that much.

Texas isn't too far of a drive for me... I may have to look into that... I've got at least one buddy who'd fly down for a good hunt like that if I could get it set up.

Trick to hog hunting on public land is go during the weekdays. They have learned to not move as much during weekends. All the hunting pressure. You will find them down in South GA. Haven't seen any up north. Not saying they aren't here just haven't seen any yet.

Forget the lodges or outfits in east Tennessee if you don't want a canned hunt. A place in Georgia, especially south Georgia may be the answer.
The "Russian" wild boars at the Englewood, Tellico, etc. Tennessee are imported mainly from Florida. They are feral hogs not Russian 'boars'.

Central Florida is bad also as is the north FL/south GA area
