A friend and I would like to take a hog each. We're in Northern Illinois. We have our rifles ready to go. We're not looking to hunt on public land, by ourselves, while staying at a Ramada Inn. We'd like more of a lodge/private hunting kind of place. We're looking for the following:

A reasonable drive from Northern Illinois.

Lodging and food. We'd like to arrive late afternoon or early evening and check into a room with our gear and have dinner. After a good night's sleep, we'd like to wake up and hunt for a hog (just one each). Maybe 1 or 2 more nights for a total of 2 or 3 before we drive back home. We're not necessarily looking to hunt with dogs, we'd prefer to be able to either walk to find the hogs or wait for them to come within our range.

After a photo with our hogs and guns, we'd like a bit of bacon and some pork chops that could be taken or shipped home.

We'd like the trophy heads mounted and then shipped to our homes.

Michigan? Ohio? Missouri? Iowa? Kentucky? Indiana? Tennessee? Somewhere in Illinois that I haven't found via Google?

I'd like to hear suggestions, especially if you've already stayed there and found the hospitality to be great.

How about florida for a nice winter hunt?? Everglades adventures. or go to( hunt florida) and look around. EA hunts on thousands of acres and if you go when cooler it would be a good adventure. Lots of hogs run wild down there for sure in the swamps and hammocks.

That looks like a great place with everything we would like. Nashville is a 9 hour drive so another 100 miles is putting it just a tad out of reach for a "day" drive for us. But it does look good.

If you are planning on shipping meat and mounts back, why not fly there?

We hate flying and we don't want to deal with flying with guns and ammo. ROAD TRIP!

I understand the interest in a road trip from "northern IL", but you shouldn't worry over much about flying with guns and ammo.

I've flown out of "northern IL" with guns and ammo and it was no great hassle...not even in the "big city where it is illegal to own a handgun". Just follow the regs and you are good to go. I used a TuffPak gun case that looks like it holds golf clubs to keep my "visual profile" as low as possible.
