AK74 vs AK74M weight

Milling versus stamping.

They’re both stamped. My guess would be the furniture used. Folding polymer stock, polymer hand guards vs. wood.

Side rail and folding stock mechanism would be the prime suspects.

I've never heard of a 1.5mm 74. I think they are all "M"-variant receivers. 1.5s require trunnions to be slightly narrower. I do not think there were any 74/100 series that used them.

I think just everything that added up. It's a PIP version so every part is slightly changed, the type of steel used is changed, and then add ons like all have a optics rail, and the folding mechanism. Not sure there's any one thing that makes it heavier.

The , RPK, and later RPK-74 and all Chinese made AKM's were made with 1.5mm thick sheetmetal receivers.

Standard 7.62 AKM and AK-74 had 1mm thick receivers.

"BUT"..... For commercial sales, anything can go.
