Tavor vs. FS2000

How much of a difference is there between the two performance wise? People are going nutz over the Tavor but nobody seems to really talk about the FS2000.

They're both good rifles, tools that will get the job done. FN has forward ejection, thus being true ambi, otherwise the Tavor is harder to get, maybe, thus more appealing. If someone would start making semi-FAMAS rifles the people would drool over it.

Tavor's advantages:

1) Better OAL to BBL ratio. Possibly shorter LOP?

2) Ability to take more different types of magazines because there's less plastic around the magazine well.

3) Possibly better takedown procedure?

4) Lighter

FS2000 advantages:

1) Forward ejection for true ambidexterity.

2) It's already available in the US.

3) In the event of a complete Federal gun grab, this will go overlooked as it looks nothing like a gun.

Tavor has a trigger-guard that can be used without taking mittens off.

FN2000 has GL attachment.

Does the FN have a storage compartment or anything in there? That'd be a bonus.

Percy don't you think that the smooth-design was on purpose? Hard to get anything caught on it.

I'm sure it was on purpose; the plastic outer shell appears to be a fairly good mix of human engineering and snag-free designing.

Did you notice that when it's got a 30 round magazine in, it balances on a flat surface at the muzzle, the foregrip and the bottom of the magazine?

Also, if you put a 20 round magazine in it protrudes just enough to facilitate insertion and removal.

I have no illusions that the FS2000 is anything but a well built gun. A little goofy looking, perhaps, but a good gun.

Now, if the price would go down and some spare parts and aftermarket replacements became available, then we could get down to business on it!

I didn't know people could get the TAVOR...

I really liked the Tavor when I first read about it in Guns and Ammo years ago. FN came out with the FS2000 and I figured that's as close as I would get. I really like the FN, I've held it in my hands and it feels good.

Please tell me how I can get my dirty little civilian pissant hands on a Tavor!!!

In Canada, where the import laws are different, you can get you hands on a Tavor for 3K hard Canadian currency.

As has been said a couple times before here, once they get rid of the magazine round restrictions and fix the healthcare, it won't just be whiny Leftists threatening to move there.

At today's exchange rate that would be $2700 (USD). I'm finding the FS at
shows around here for $2200 (USD).

Dang....I remember the days of $1.65 CAD vs $1 USD weren't that long ago
but then the USD has turned to doggie crud since then....

The Tavor is piston driven. Is the FS2000 also piston? Wikipedia says yes but fnusa makes it sound like it isn't

Is the FS2000 also piston?

Yes. The only one "modern" piston-less gas-operated rifle is Ar-15 / M16 and its descendants like Sr-25, DPMS 308 etc.

FS2000 Forward Eject is great if you reload, when shooting from a bench it drops the brass onto the bench - easy to pickup all the rounds.

Of course, the FA-MAS is pistonless, but it's lever-delayed blowback, not gas.
