Colt Boa Auction...I had no idea...

I actually liked the Colt Mk.V (the grips were one of the few on Colt DA revolvers that fit my hand perfectly), and in fact I had a couple of them, and while the Boa is a nice looking version of that revolver, there's no way it's worth that kind of money! That's priced more like what someone would pay for a USAF Colt Aircrewman with serial number "AF-1"!

It's not even a Python, actually. It's just a mediocre Trooper Mark V with a Python-like barrel and a Royal Blue finish. That's it. Manufactured at a time when Colt's quality had fallen through the floor to boot.

Colt collectors are an odd bunch.

Exactly, it's only desirable because of it's rarity, not it's quality. You could buy a bunch of Korths or Manurhins for what this is going for.

It's a shame , I bet that gun will never even be fired. You can't , the collector value would drop like a stone. So just as an investment , I guess it's ok. But at this point it's gun shaped art, not intended for use. Too weird for me.

By comparison, S&W only made 900 steel-framed M39s. They pop up occasionally for a couple thousand bucks.

Not to derail this thread but I would like to thank Nightlord40k because today is the day I learned my Smith 39 with a steel frame is actually some kind of collector piece....... Which is hilarious because I carry and shoot it regularly. I guess when I’m gone mine will be “Shooter Condition”

I’ve seen the set of two boas, a 4” and a 6”, of which only 100 were made, go upwards of 40K. I would rather personally collect old unfire 1950-70 S & W revolvers with that kinda cheese. The value of the single Boa
As well as the sets has to be topped out. The Pythons are very close as the price complaints are outweighing the prices pretty steadily now from those that can actually easily afford them. Old Smiths’, now even old model 10s, are still on a nice steady climb. Granted all revolvers with any age or history have a steeper curve up the past couple years as new gun folks and collectors come into the market for those
‘Neat old antiques like grandpa had’.
Grumble grumble, lol.

Insane. Even the strike-era guns like the Peacekeeper and Whitetailer are nuts. The guns have no polishing at all, just a parkerized finish over the rough machined surfaces and they're still nuts. The basic Peacekeeper is $1000 and the Whitetailer is around $3000. Most people have probably never even heard of them. The Peacekeeper is the reason why Colt put AWA out of business.

EDIT: Wanna see something uber-stupid? A factory engraved Peacekeeper for $25k! Seriously, Alvin White engraving over an as-machined, parkerized finish. "One of a kind", I wonder why.

Sold $ 31,898.00 88bids
The person who won seems to have spend near $50k in the little over 2 months he's been a member on 27 auctions. Sometimes winning multiple auctions on the same day or every two days.

As an aside that has nothing to do with the OP: I honestly feel like there's some serious back door illegal stuff, fraud, and shill bidding that is happening on GB that will hopefully someday come to light.

Yeah it does seem kind of strange that there were other bidders who were also actively pursuing this "rare and highly collectible Colt"; enough so to drive the price up into the stratosphere!

You gotta love how the cylinder release latch hangs over the edge of the frame on that one.
