Colt Boa auction, warning!!!!

If I had that kind of money to spare, I'd build a wall between me and my %&#* neighbor. But good luck and I hope you win.

Colt collectors have issues. I distinctly remember Colts of that era. I was not impressed. I went through several Pythons waiting to find that “Magical” Python trigger and, incredible lockup.

The lockup was good. But, to me, they timed slow. They didn’t lock up until the trigger was all the way to the rear. And the action felt like it had rubber bands in it.

I suppose from a Rarity standpoint. Well. Ok.

Once you get it do some mud and dirt torture testing followed by about a thousand rounds of Jerry Miculek style speed shooting. Let's see if those models are really all they're cracked up to be, lol.

Is this what this forum has evolved into? Discussing how silly we feel Gunbroker auctions are -- and how stupid those who bid on these auctions are?

Some things are so blindingly obvious that they don't really require analysis.

Guessin' no one here has noticed, but you can't buy a decent new truck these days for under $60,000...
And even at that price from American manufacturers you might have to wait for a "Chip" :(

There are plenty of far higher-quality handguns made in similar or lesser numbers that don’t command anything close to what the Boa brings at auction these days. It’s the rarity plus the particular lunacy of Colt collectors.

What I don’t get is that a Colt Shooting Master in .357 Mag. — which is quite arguably the most finely fitted DA .357 Mag. revolver ever made in this country (yes, above the Registered Magnum), and of which only 500 were made, with far fewer remaining more than eight decades later — will bring just a small fraction of this amount, even in superb condition.

Chalk it up to the idiotic “snake gun” obsession — a craze over an advertising gimmick consisting largely of one iconic revolver and a bunch of dreck riding its coattails.

Same with the Colt .3 5 7, every bit as good as a Python yet they can be had for about $700.

Gun collectors are weird. That thing looks like an over-polished Taurus. "The perceived value of rarity"...

Thats what I thought! It looks like a Taurus model 66 from the 1980s with the wood Taurus grips they used to put on their guns. I think I would rather have the $500 Taurus. Be sure and post pictures if you win it.

The Colt collector thing reminds me of the story about the Tulip Bulb frenzy in the 1600;s where Tulip bulbs reached incredible prices. I think it was the first bubble in history.

This is soooooo true ! Sold the Pythons for double and triple my invests over the last 10 years but my Colt 1953 .357 4" is going no where ! I never liked the barrel weight and tacky rib on the Python anyway !

Colt Anacondas are pretty cool. One of my favorite of the .44 Mags

Yeah, they’re fun, but let’s not pretend that the originals are even in the same galaxy as the Python in fit and finish and overall attention to detail, inside and out (the first two decades or so of the original Python, anyway — I’ve seen some pretty disappointing examples from the 1980s and 1990s). The original Anaconda is a pretty crude beast, and Colt was well past its best years when they designed and produced it.

So true and the sad part of gun collecting ! Yeah a .357 Shooting Master is a jewel and every bit as good or better than a Registered Magnum. And here we have this Boa with the cheap un hand honed first MIM innards ot the later Trooper getting treated like Royalty ! :(

Yep.

I don’t mind, though. Better for me that some collectors focus on junk like the Boa and less on the things I’m interested in collecting. :)

They’re close, minus a little bit of extra tuning (and cosmetic work, of course). I thought they were bringing a bit more than that these days. I remember seeing a near-perfect one sell for around $2,500 a year or two ago. Then again, it was probably Keystone on GB that was selling it, and their auctions often run wild.

I could be wrong, but I gathered from UncleEd’s posts that he was being facetious and is not actually fighting for that ridiculous gussied-up Mark V.

I was at about 600.00 when I looked at the gun pitchers, when I saw the box I was at 300.00! Box says union made on it.

I wondered about that myself but wasn't really sure one way or the other. That is, I wasn't sure until his post about backing out of the deal. That's when I was convinced he's just funni'n us. I can't believe anyone who is genuinely planning on welching would have the chutzpah to post it publicly.

I would probably shoot it and thereby ruin the collector value and stick it in a safe. You have no threat from me.
