Last Monday I sent my Ruger New Vaquero .45 Colt back to Ruger for some warranty work. After they received it I called and asked if I could have a .45 ACP cylinder set up for it. The lady I spoke to told me that they weren’t doing any “elective work only warranty work”, but she said she would put a note on my work order and maybe they might be able to do it since the gun is already there.

Well, today I got a call telling me that they would go ahead and set up a .45 ACP cylinder for me. The cost would be $175. I couldn’t get my Visa card out fast enough. The nice lady said they should get the cylinder fitted and the gun shipped out in 6 or 7 days.

I am really looking for to getting my Ruger back and trying out that new cylinder.:D

Sounds great, glad they took care of you. Not bad on pricing either! :)

Congratulations!

I use the 45acp cylinder on my Blackhawk a lot.

In normal times it is much cheaper and easier to find ammo, and for me it seems to be equally as accurate as 45colt.

IIRC, the POI is a little bit different, but they group about the same.

Seems odd to me that since the time of Eli Whitney and Samuel Colt there have been mass produced parts, but revolvers to this day still have to be "fitted".

With all the tech advances and computerized machining, you'd think they could get the tolerances close enough to preclude that.

I find myself using the .45 ACP cylinder a lot more than the .45 Colt. If the cylinder is fitted properly and the throats are appropriately sized, both can shoot very well. I also had mine trimmed so I could headspace .45 AR in addition to the .45 ACP. That way I can use the same ammo I put together for my S&W 625. And I feel a lot better when using very small charges of fast powder in the much smaller .45 ACP or .45 AR case.

Thanks for all your replies.

@nofendertom that’s a great idea for carrying .45 ACP ammo. Now I guess I gotta get me one or two mags. I no longer have any. I gave them to my daughter when I gave her my Colt 1991A1 years ago.
Hmmm...if I have magazines I may need to get another 1911....

I look forward to receiving my RNV and taking it to the range to try out that new cylinder. :D

Well, it’s February 23rd and nothin’! Still haven’t got my gun with it’s snappy new cylinder. I called Ruger today and they said they’re still waiting for the cylinder. I guess they’re made elsewhere? Anyway...still waiting...

My Ruger showed up today! :D

The new .45 ACP cylinder looks just like the .45 Colt cylinder. I am going to have to make sure I don’t mix ‘em up. Looks like a Murphy’s Law Moment in the making. Haha

I am loading up some .45 ACP, if I can get my wife to help me, I only have one hand due to breaking my wrist and having surgery. But, by golly, one way or another I am going to the range tomorrow to shoot this puppy with some .45 ACP and some.45 Colt. :D:cool:

Here’s the new cylinder sitting on top of the original.

That is awesome! I have a 5.5 inch SS Bisley convertible. I love to sit around in the desert and plink with the .45 ACP cylinder.

You have got a winner there!

Enjoy.

I have a Blachhawk with the acp cylinder and carry it in my RV when I travel. I am in the process of purchasing a SS Blackhawk in .40/10mm that should be equally fun and practical!

A Blackhawk .357 / 9mm is on my list of guns that I want. I haven’t decided if I want the 6.5” or the 4.6” barrel. I think that decision will be made for me by what becomes available. ;)
