I have an old savage axis that my grandmother gave to me 9 years ago for my 13th birthday that i had been trying to get rid of because i just didn't really like it anymore. It was my first centerfire rifle and came in an appropriate caliber, .223 Remington. After juggling between my friends it came back to me and i found some superformance varmint ammo at the cabelas in my area and had just acquired a predator call so I figured id slap a scope on it and see what it can do.
Turns out this 9 year old budget rifle with a vortex diamondback 3-9 can still pull some real nice groups and I even got over my dislike of the trigger.
This is what it can do with the superformance and some remanufactured freedom munitions fmjs:
Those are all the groups i shot with the rifle, I then took it back to 350 yards and nailed an 8 inch steel plate 15 times out of 15 with the freedom munitions on a windy Kansas day. This really rubs me to get another axis in a caliber I don't already have like a 22-250.
