I think I'll let you manufacture and handle the nitroglycerine! I think, based on my limited reading of history of modern propellants, that more modern single based powders similar to IMR 4895 would actually be simpler to produce than some of the early types. Not for me though, however it is interesting to read up on the "how-to" of such things.

Yeah I ran the numbers on making nitroglycerin, it's really expensive, even if you make your own glycerin and that is free. The nitric acid is the $ killer. You would have to buy it buy the truck load. It would cost up to $100 per to make it pound buying nitric acid in lab jugs and using cheap hardware store sulphuric.

It's pretty dangerous but we have 2 things the old timers didn't. Readily available refrigeration and acetone.

Best bet is a single base low test nitro cellulose, making your own black powder or some sort of pyrodex.

I wonder if they sell cordite??? would be a great, clean way to load ammo

Cordite is very interesting! I’m going down the WW1 rabbit hole of Cordite on YT

Making your own cordite seems fairly difficult.
I would recommend studying on reloading primers with late 1800s to 1950 primer materials.
All the chemicals can be readily bought and are fairly harmless until mixed.
The reactions to make nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin are pretty dangerous and the nitroglycerin can be incredibly dangerous because of the amounts needed to make usable amounts of propellants.

Best bet for powders is get into milsurp powders. A few hundred bucks will pretty much buy a lifetime supply of powder unless you shoot competitive.

I heard about millsurp powder! .50 cal pull outs. And .50 cal HE insinadary rounds!

Cody’s Lab, on the Memememetoob, has a video of how to make a single drop of nitroglycerin.
Which he then puts into the key way of a Master Lock pad lock, and shreds it.
I don’t know how he didn’t wear the shackle as a nose ring, but I’m glad he didn’t...

A necessary precursor to smokeless powder, but how to get it into the powder is a closely guarded trade secret.
I’ll buy my powder already corned please!

If it came to making my own, it would be the Holy Black Powder. Which I have done, with success.
And it can be useful in all sorts of fun things. Smokepoles to rockets, and colors in between!

Even Silver Flash seems safer than Nitro!:what:

(Really, they’re both coiled rattlesnakes waiting to bite...)

i tried to make BP when I was 12yo... failed!

Powder is around. You just have to be diligent in your searches and willing to try alternatives. No need to experiment and take myself out of the gene pool to early...
